TLDraw provides an open-source whiteboard and infinite canvas toolkit for React developers, enabling the creation of collaborative and customizable digital spaces. Its core SDK is free and open-source, designed to be dropped into existing apps as a React-based canvas, with additional tools, services, and APIs for real-time collaboration; paid enterprise options are available for more advanced needs. What sets TLDraw apart is its open-source foundation paired with a freemium model and a focus on React integration, making it easy to customize and extend for team collaboration across products. The goal is to help developers seamlessly add scalable, collaborative digital whiteboards and canvases to their applications, with optional enterprise support.

What believers are saying

  • Raised $10M from Lux Capital and Definition, plus $2M extension from Amplify.
  • Mobbin integrates tldraw for collaborative UI/UX design features.
  • Adopted in edtech for interactive tools and enterprise diagramming workflows.

What critics are saying

  • Excalidraw's permissive license and 2x GitHub stars divert 60-80% SDK users in 6-12 months.
  • Mandatory 'Made with tldraw' watermark drives forks like tldraw.mirror, eroding licenses immediately.
  • Figma Canvas and Miro APIs commoditize whiteboards, undercutting tldraw in 12-24 months.

What makes tldraw unique

  • tldraw delivers React SDK with extreme customizability for shapes, behaviors, and UI via runtime API.
  • Enterprise multiplayer sync features live cursors, viewport following, and cursor chat.
  • Powers viral demos like make real and tldraw computer beyond standard whiteboard.
