Requirements
  • A college diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or an equivalent credential is required.
  • Experience in fitness leadership for seniors is required.
  • Previous experience working with seniors is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • A valid provincial driver's license is required to transport residents by van, such as Class 4 or Class F.
  • A complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, must be provided or obtained.
  • The role requires working in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing meaningful programs for residents in collaboration with the Active Living Manager and Executive Director.
  • Maintain appropriate department records, including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, and charting.
  • Maintain effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers, and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events.
  • Attend in-service education to stay informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interests in mind.
  • Facilitate residents' attendance at scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
  • Assist with assessing individual resident activity levels.
  • Prepare, carry out, and evaluate daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
