  • Ability to balance owning multiple, concurrent projects or a major project from concept to completion including requirements gathering, leading of peers, documentation, implementation, reporting to senior leadership, testing, turn up, and hand over.
  • Ability to create detailed documentation on proposed solutions that can be implemented easily by operations teams.
  • Subject matter expert in one or more network specialty domains: firewalls, VOIP, datacenter technologies, load balancers, cloud networking, wireless, packet analysis, networking tools (DNAC, PRTG, ISE, etc.), MPLS, or route/switch.
  • Expert knowledge of IP & MAC addressing, OSI Layer 1-7 packet analysis, VLANs, routing & switching protocols, security protocols and compliance.
  • Expert knowledge on Load Balancing terminologies and methodologies.
  • Expert knowledge in vendor management and collaboration, common network equipment (routers, switches, wireless APs), specialist network equipment (firewalls, load balancers, virtual machines, IPS/IDS), and modern topologies.
  • Expert troubleshooting skills and methodologies on network infrastructure technologies to include newer and unfamiliar domains.
  • Very strong knowledge of wireless networking and either firewalls, VOIP, datacenter technologies, load balancers, or cloud networking.
  • Strong knowledge in supported domains: server infrastructure, storage, databases, web applications.
  • Experience with Visio for topology diagrams and excel sheets for day to day tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains a broad understanding of the function of multiple technology fields including applications, server infrastructure, database, and web and how they interoperate with the network infrastructure.
  • Independently studies, research, and provides deep knowledge of network specialty domains such as firewalls, VOIP, datacenter technologies, load balancers, cloud networking, wireless, packet analysis, networking tools (DNAC, PRTG, ISE, etc.), MPLS, network security, or route/switch and is a subject matter expert on one or more of these technologies.
  • Independently evaluates existing network infrastructure systems to identify failed security compliance, licensing gaps, cost overruns, and/or technology failures and defines a remediation plan.
  • Independently collaborates with vendors on new technology offerings to evaluate, test, and integrate those offerings into the network infrastructure.
  • Independently trains peers on new technology solutions and facilitates the handover of those solutions from architecture to operations and acts as final escalation point for specialty technology that has been architected.
  • Independently owns a major or multiple concurrent minor network infrastructure projects from concept to completion including requirements gathering, delegation of tasks to peers, implementation, reporting to senior leadership, turn up, testing, and hand off of the technology solution to the business.
  • Independently troubleshoots, resolves, and seeks root cause analysis of issues, major incidents, and outages.
  • Independently processes routine requests for network services, access, and documentation.
  • Configures, maintains, and operates routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, load balancers, VOIP equipment, and monitoring tools.
  • Networking knowledge and integration of Cloud Providers such as Azure and AWS.
  • Provide last level of escalation support.
  • Provide mentoring and training to engineering resources on the team.
