Requirements
  • Over 15 years of professional experience in a consulting environment, with tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Biodiversity Assessment Method accreditation and well-developed skills in the preparation of technical reports including BDARs, BCARs, BSSARs, Referrals, management plans and other reports.
  • Expert experience conducting vegetation surveys in NSW and strong botanical identification skills, including experience using dissecting microscopes and identification keys.
  • Strong understanding of national and state environmental legislation and policy (e.g. BC Act, EPBC Act, EP&A Act) and experience liaising with clients and approval authorities on complex projects.
  • Willingness to work with a cohort of senior ecologists to guide and support junior team members.
  • A current full NSW driver’s license and willingness to travel and work in remote areas.
Responsibilities
  • Providing technical leadership, client management, and project delivery for conservation and the ecological components of multidisciplinary projects across New South Wales and nationally.
  • Field-based botanical survey work, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora and fauna surveys, and vegetation integrity plots using the Biodiversity Assessment Method.
  • Preparing proposals and technical reports for public and private sector clients, while seeking out new project opportunities and converting leads into projects.
  • Assisting with business planning and making strategic decisions for the group’s development, while build capability through mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • Collaborating with GHD staff from a range of disciplines including Environmental Planners, Cultural Heritage Advisors, Spatial scientists, Hydrogeologists, Engineers, Project Managers etc.
  • Growing our team’s technical capability through mentoring and conducting technical reviews.
