Summary:
Provides general assistance with daily library operations for the Upland Public Library such as sorting, shelving, and arranging library materials, clearing library tables and bookshelves of library materials, and assisting with various library programs. Assists with the America Reads program to provide elementary school-aged students with tutoring to improve basic reading, writing, and study skills.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Sorts and shelves incoming books, videos, compact discs, and other library material.
- Arranges and maintains a variety of library material in order on shelves.
- Clears Library tables and bookshelves of unused or mis-shelved books and other library material.
- Other duties may be required and assigned such as assisting with various library programs.
- Delivers quality customer service transactions in communicating with library patrons, staff and other library users in person, via telephone, or virtually.
- Works with staff to provide tutoring assistance to elementary school-aged children in the Back-to-Basics Program.
- Assists elementary school aged children with improving reading skills.
- Assists elementary school aged children with improving writing skills.
- Assists elementary school aged children with improving study skills.
- Serves as a role model for each student being tutored.
- Motivates and develops each child’s self-confidence helping student to overcome anxiety or fear of failure in academic work, and helps maintain each student’s positive attitude.
- Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
- Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or university information as required.
- Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
- Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
