Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of experience in Supply Chain, operating rooms, or procedural areas.
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft Office tools and ability to learn necessary supporting information systems.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills to effectively represent Brown University Health and Supply Chain in interaction with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains quality assurance and practice standards in accordance with established system policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Recognizes or anticipates problems and refers them immediately to the appropriate person for resolution if needed.
  • Follows established processes to reasonably ensure uninterrupted supply of all inventory items needed to maintain supply chain managed operating rooms, procedural areas, and ancillary departments.
  • Performs any combination of duties including counting, organizing, ordering, delivery, picking, packaging, put away, inspection, and/or receiving of equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for assuring supplies are available to support patients and caregivers in supply chain managed operating rooms, procedural areas, and ancillary departments.
  • Maintains stock within assigned areas in a clean and orderly manner including storage rooms with organization, shelves, bins, carts, and clear and correct labels.
  • Orders approved supplies through Brown University Health Purchasing utilizing the electronic ordering system; expedites orders; receives stock and maintains inventory par levels.
  • Adjusts and maintains par levels based on usage demand, total cost, and just-in-time principles.
  • Identifies, quantifies, and acts on variables which impact par levels; reports supply shortages and urgent order status appropriately; works with supply chain and departmental to adjust pars to meet clinical need and Brown University Health supply spend goals.
  • Timely communicates and follows up with vendors, department staff, and other personnel regarding supply chain managed surgical or procedural products.
  • Works with Supply Chain Leadership to identify and execute department strategic goals for inventory management, cost savings, inventory reduction and improvement programs.
  • Assists in the reconciliation of purchase orders, resolving discrepancies with vendors, receiving department and accounts payable.
  • Participates in the annual supply physical inventory and acts as a Supply Chain representative during all audit procedures.
  • Implements inventory management processes and principles including rotation of stock utilizing dated material policy and/or FIFO (first in first out).
  • Operationalizes the product recall and substitution processes including communication as necessary.
  • Receives material by verification of package or bin contents by review of packing slips, receiving slips, or purchase orders, and maintains appropriate records. Identifies and resolves discrepancies.
  • Transports and/or unloads supplies from receiving area or dock using hand or electric lift trucks as needed.
  • Interacts with suppliers to confirm or expedite delivery of orders and/or initiate and execute returns.
  • Performs other related duties such as answering telephone and pager, relaying messages, conducting stock audits and reconciliations, cleaning work area, filing, and documentation, etcetera as required.
  • Functions independently within broad scope of department policies and procedures; refers specific problems to Supply Chain leadership where clarification or exception may be required
  • May provide functional guidance and training to new employees regarding supply chain operations.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, aseptic techniques, operating room environment, and inventory management preferred.
