Requirements
  • At least two years of demonstrated annual giving or fundraising experience, or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing, or business development.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising and major-giving principles and practices in a major research university or an institution of equivalent complexity, including annual-giving techniques.
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement broad-ranging and individualized identification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, proposals, and other cultivation and solicitation materials, and to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives, and programs.
  • Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to collect and convey information accurately, diplomatically, and tactfully, and to persuasively express the university's mission and fundraising goals, especially as they relate to Neurology and Neurosurgery and the David Geffen School of Medicine.
  • Ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate, and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and build and sustain lasting relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, accept responsibility, set priorities, and manage workflow to fulfill objectives and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of data management sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and other information and demonstrate integrity and discretion when dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite applications and familiarity with database, spreadsheet, scheduling, and email applications.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background investigation is required for continued employment.
Responsibilities
  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, grow, and manage a portfolio of lower-level major-gift prospects.
  • Collaborate directly with the Director and Executive Director of Development for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
  • Organize and meet with donors.
  • Develop compelling written communications for constituencies.
  • Develop strategic approaches to advance philanthropic priorities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM or an equivalent development database and using databases to generate reports.
