Cohere provides access to advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) through a simple API. It serves businesses that want to improve content generation, summarization, and semantic search across multiple languages. The product works by offering API access to pre-trained models that perform tasks like text classification, sentiment analysis, and semantic search; users can customize and integrate these models into their applications, enabling scalable and affordable AI-powered solutions. Cohere differentiates itself with a developer-friendly API, multilingual support, and easy customization to help organizations build smarter and faster AI solutions. The company’s goal is to make powerful generative AI tools accessible to a wide range of customers and use cases, letting them deploy AI features quickly without managing complex models themselves.

Second Front and Cohere deploy sovereign AI in UAE in under two hours

Second Front Systems and Cohere have successfully deployed Cohere North, a sovereign AI platform, in the United Arab Emirates in under two hours. The deployment used Second Front's Frontier platform and ran on an Armada Galleon, a portable containerised edge data centre. The demonstration shows enterprise-grade sovereign AI can be rapidly deployed with full security and control, compressing a process that traditionally requires months into a single session. Cohere North allows organisations to run AI infrastructure entirely within their own borders, with data never leaving their perimeter. Second Front, a public-benefit software company, provides secure delivery platforms for government and regulated networks. Cohere, founded in 2019, has raised approximately $1.6 billion from investors including Nvidia, AMD Ventures and Salesforce Ventures. A full customer rollout is planned for later this summer.

HiddenLayer and Cohere partner to secure enterprise AI agents against prompt injection and data leakage

HiddenLayer, an AI security company, has partnered with Cohere to enable enterprises to deploy agentic AI at scale with built-in protection against AI-native threats. The collaboration combines Cohere's North platform with HiddenLayer's AI Security Platform to address risks including prompt injection, data leakage and malicious tool use. The partnership allows organisations to deploy AI agents that connect to enterprise systems whilst defending against attacks that traditional security tools cannot address. HiddenLayer tested the solution internally before deployment, demonstrating practical security for production environments. Key capabilities include detecting prompt injection and model attacks at runtime, reducing data leakage risks, and providing audit-ready visibility for compliance. The companies will host a webinar on 30th June to discuss secure enterprise AI deployment.

Cohere CEO warns renting AI from foreign providers poses national security risk

Aidan Gomez, CEO of Canadian AI company Cohere, warns that renting AI from foreign providers poses a national security risk, particularly after the US restricted foreign access to Anthropic's Mythos model earlier this month. He argues democracies must build sovereign AI systems they control end-to-end, rather than depending on foreign APIs. The US and China control 90% of global AI computing power, whilst Cohere and France's Mistral are amongst few prominent frontier AI developers outside this axis. Gomez advocates for countries to own their full AI infrastructure stack, from data centres to chips to models. However, Gomez acknowledges full sovereignty is unrealistic for most nations. Instead, he proposes democracies should pool resources through trusted partnerships, backing selected "champions". Cohere is acquiring Germany's Aleph Alpha in a deal valuing the combined company at around $20 billion.

HIVE Digital secures $220M investment from Bell Canada and Cohere, stock surges 12%

HIVE Digital's stock surged 12% following news of a $220 million investment from Bell Canada and AI firm Cohere. The three-year deal will see HIVE's high-performance computing unit deploy 2,304 Nvidia processors at Bell's AI facility in British Columbia. The project will provide dedicated computing capacity for Cohere's enterprise AI models serving Canada's federal government and corporate clients. All infrastructure will remain on Canadian soil, supporting Ottawa's push to reduce reliance on foreign-controlled AI technologies. Expected to be operational by early 2027, the project will add approximately $70 million in annual recurring revenue to HIVE Digital. The company's contracted HPC revenue now exceeds $100 million, marking a successful pivot from Bitcoin mining to data centre operations.
