DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Position Specific Summary
The Community Safety Program Director position in the City of Tucson’s City Manager Office is responsible for overseeing the management, planning and implementation of the Community Safety Program, including the allocation of resources. This position implements the vision and policies set by Mayor and Council focused on the unsheltered, the opioid response, and violence prevention and intervention. The Community Safety Program Director is a strategic partner and coordinator collaborating with fellow City departments, Pima County, and other community organizations to maximize resources and ensure best practice and data driven information is used to make the most impact to the community.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant City Manager. This position exercises supervision over community safety personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees day-to-day operations of the program. Identifies project needs, measures objectives, and cultivates existing and future partners. Maintains records, assists in preparing grant applications and reviews proposals. Develops and monitors relevant contracts. Reviews work activities and project status. Compiles and analyzes data and reports regarding safety programs.
Supervises various levels of staff, provides feedback, regular performance evaluations and implements a recognition program for staff. Plans and offers trainings and team meetings to staff for professional development.
Creates and maintains ongoing evaluation of program policies, projects and procedures ensuring program strategies align with organizational goals. Develops community outreach and education programs regarding Community Safety Programs offered by the City of Tucson. Adheres closely to ongoing policy direction provided by City of Tucson Mayor and Council.
Communicates with leadership and elected officials through written correspondence and provides program updates and presentations at public meetings such as Mayor and Council meetings. Communicates effectively while establishing relationships of trust with the community, City. Management Team, and the Mayor and Council.
Leads the inter-agency effort to enhance the safety, health and wellness of the Tucson community and serves as key leader in the City of Tucson on community issues including unsheltered, the opioid response, and violence interruption and prevention.
Coordinates with other departments and nongovernmental organizations to address gaps in services and provide seamless service to residents and clients served. Contributes to the City’s overall vision and identifies opportunities for program expansion.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree
Work Experience:
Five (5) years of directly related experience
License:
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Work Experience:
-Five (5) years experience in the management of social service programs including grant/contract administration, with at least two (2) of five (5) years in a supervisory capacity. Executive experience managing community safety, public health, or wellness programs, to include experience and knowledge of finance, operations, human resources, and policy development.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Full Hourly Range: $47.08 - 81.20 USD
