Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 9 years of clinical experience in Magnetic resonance Imaging OR Baccalaureate degree with 5 years of clinical experience in Magnetic resonance imaging
  • Active American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) certification and registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • Active license from the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board of Examiners
  • ABMRS MRSO Certified within one year
  • BLS Certified
  • 5 years of clinical experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Responsibilities
  • Enforce proper policies and procedures for day-to-day MR safety.
  • Develop, document, and introduce, in conjunction with and under the authority of the MR Medical Director (MRMD) safe working procedures for the MR environment.
  • Issue adequately written safety procedures, work instructions, emergency procedures and operating instructions to all concerned parties after full consultation with the MR Medical Director (MRMD).
  • Ensure that appropriate measures for minimizing risks to health that arise from the use of or exposure to the MR equipment, as per the direction of the MR Medical Director (MRMD).
  • Manage hazards posed by the MR equipment and monitor the measures taken to protect against such hazards.
  • Ensure that all Heads of Departments and senior medical staff members who are responsible for personnel who will be involved with the MR system are informed of the formal procedures for training and authorization.
  • Educate, on a regular basis, medical, technical, nursing and all other relevant staff groups (including ancillary workers) who may be exposed to the MR environment on the safety requirements.
  • Maintain records of the personnel who have been educated on safety requirements.
  • Consult with the MR Medical Director (MRMD) / MR Physicist when further advice regarding MR safety is required.
  • Report back to the MR Medical Director (MRMD), in a timely fashion, any and all MR safety-related issues.
  • Establish clear policies for the purchasing, testing, and marking of all equipment for MR-related critical areas.
  • Provide and/or ensuring the provision of MR safety education and training in cooperation with, and as per the policies of, the MR Medical Director (MRMD).
  • Provide safety advice regarding the selection, procurement, and installation of MR-related equipment.
  • Provide safety advice on the modification of MR protocols.
  • Maintain regular contact with other relevant groups or committees responsible for the safety and welfare of personnel on site, such as, but not limited to, the local ethics committee and the local safety committee.
  • Collaborate with leadership and radiologists regarding safety practices, policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the MR team is educated in clear, adequate written safety procedures, work instructions, emergency procedures, and operating instructions while maintaining training documentation.
  • Responsible for Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) of MRI Systems and Staff Examinations.
  • Responsible for maintaining the ACR/IAC accreditations/certifications for the MRI units.
  • Responsible for the annual screening, identification, & MR safety training for all WVUH staff & emergency personnel entering Zone IV as part of their normal duties.
  • Responsible for the clearance of all MR Conditional implants (ex., pacemakers, bone growth stimulators, vagal nerve stimulators).
