Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Materials Science, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field, with 0-6 years of experience.
  • Strong materials science fundamentals and relevant materials characterization experience, including scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis, dilatometry, particle size distribution, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis.
  • Comfort working at the boundary between material behavior and hardware requirements.
  • Interest in translating materials learning into manufacturable product decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Lead materials characterization and focused studies as the platform evolves, including failure analysis and materials/process tradeoffs, and own quality control of raw materials.
  • Develop cell and stack materials from composition and processing through characterization and production-ready specifications.
  • Collaborate on cell and stack scale-up, degradation analysis, failure diagnosis, and process improvements.
  • Partner with Mechanical and Test Engineering to understand manufacturability and test results across the entire technology.
  • Conceptualize and execute experimental plans, and document observations, results, and recommendations so the team can make fast, traceable technical decisions.

Teragen Energy designs modular regenerative solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems that generate electricity from fuels like natural gas or hydrogen without combustion and can also operate in electrolysis mode to produce hydrogen for energy storage. This dual capability lets a single platform replace diesel generators and lithium-ion batteries in microgrids, data centers, and renewable energy projects. The systems are modular, compact, and offer high efficiency, fuel flexibility, and fast load-following, while producing minimal local pollutants due to no combustion. Originating from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the company uses DOE/ARPA-E validated tech to provide on-site power and dispatchable energy, supporting AI/cloud needs, microgrids, and renewables integration while simplifying infrastructure and permitting.
