Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least two years of professional experience is required, preferably in fundraising, sales, marketing, customer relationship management, higher education, or a related relationship-building and constituent-engagement field.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required, including the ability to build rapport and establish relationships through virtual and digital channels.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
  • The candidate must be able to analyze information, interpret data, and use technology effectively to support outreach and engagement strategies.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • The candidate must demonstrate commitment to Washington and Lee University's mission and values and appreciation for philanthropy's role in supporting higher education.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and actively engage an assigned portfolio of alumni, parents, and friends through personalized outreach to increase annual fund participation, secure leadership-level gifts, and identify prospects for future major gift cultivation.
  • Conduct discovery conversations and qualification meetings to assess philanthropic interests, engagement, giving capacity, and readiness for further cultivation; document interactions and maintain accurate constituent records in fundraising and engagement systems.
  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans for assigned prospects using email, telephone, text messaging, video messaging and conferencing, and other digital engagement tools.
  • Create individualized cultivation strategies and establish next steps to advance prospects through the donor pipeline.
  • Solicit annual fund and leadership annual giving commitments and partner with University Advancement colleagues to enhance donor engagement and retention.
  • Identify and refer qualified prospects to major gift officers and other fundraising staff, providing detailed information about donor interests, philanthropic priorities, and engagement history.
  • Use fundraising software, reporting tools, and portfolio management systems to track activity, monitor progress toward goals, analyze results, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Advancement colleagues to support fundraising initiatives, campaign priorities, volunteer engagement efforts, and donor stewardship activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of University Advancement's mission and goals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fundraising experience, particularly in higher education, nonprofit organizations, or annual giving programs, is preferred.
  • Experience with fundraising, constituent relationship management, or donor management software is preferred.
  • Experience with Slate for Advancement or similar advancement platforms is highly desirable.
