Requirements
  • Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Emergency and critical care experience preferred
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure
  • Dedication and desire to have an active and essential role in the growth and development of the dialysis service
  • Ability to multi-task while paying close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrating a high level of initiative and motivation
  • Excellent organization skills are essential
Responsibilities
  • Client and referring veterinarian communication via email and phone
  • Communication and coordination with other services (nurse, clinicians and students) within Penn Vet regarding presenting complaint, diagnostics performed and projected plan of care
  • Unit maintenance including managing maintenance contracts, organization, and inventory
  • Technical procedures such as patient support and monitoring during treatment, long and short-term intravenous catheter placement, drug administration, sedation and monitoring, blood transfusion administration and monitoring
  • Provide surgical assistance for the placement of long-term hemodialysis catheters
  • Manage charging for all ECT procedures and treatments
  • Provide excellent patient care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration
  • Prepare and assist with complex procedures including hemodialysis, hemoperfusion, plasmapheresis, ECG monitoring and interpretation, emergency CPCR, venous and arterial cut down, and various other routine and emergency diagnostic testing and procedures
  • Responsible for supervising, coaching, teaching and orienting students, interns and residents regarding excellent patient care and technical procedures
  • Record a variety of data relating to patient care and treatments and service related communications
  • Maintain a clean working environment to ensure infectious disease standards are followed and infection is not spread
  • Work in other nursing areas when there are no ECT cases, as assigned by the Director of Nursing
Desired Qualifications
  • Emergency and critical care experience preferred
  • Veterinary Technician C has 4+ years of veterinary experience
  • Veterinary Technician D has 5+ years of veterinary experience
  • Veterinary Technician E has 8+ years of veterinary experience +/- VTS
