Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 10 and a minimum of one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • General knowledge of cleaning rules and regulations and security and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements involving considerable walking, climbing, and manual work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
  • Availability to work weekends and, when required, evenings.
Responsibilities
  • Request and receive materials and equipment for assigned work and maintain adequate cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure it is in good operating condition.
  • Clean, dust, sweep, mop, wash, vacuum, polish, disinfect, and scrub floors, walls, fixtures, furniture, shower stalls, bathtubs, sinks, toilets, and appliances.
  • Operate light- or heavy-duty hand-operated and power-operated cleaning equipment.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and writing paper.
  • Remove old wax and polish coatings and re-wax or polish floors, fixtures, or furniture.
  • Shampoo carpets periodically.
  • Clean and wash accessible interior and exterior windows and other glass surfaces.
  • Rearrange, move, and set up furniture and equipment as required.
  • Make beds, change linen, return soiled linen to designated collection areas, and distribute linen and collected laundry.
  • Collect garbage and waste, tidy and clean ashtrays, empty waste receptacles, and deposit waste in containers or pickup points.
  • Clean building vents and drains and service washrooms.
  • Put up and replace signs on notice boards, doors, and other easily reachable surfaces.
  • Sweep and clean sidewalks and related areas and clean snow when required.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs, including hammering nails, hanging pictures, drapes, and blinds, oiling hinges and locks, changing light bulbs, tightening fixture screws, making minor furniture repairs and adjustments, replacing door stops, adjusting door closures, unplugging toilets, removing broken glass, cleaning light fixtures, and replacing broken switch and wall-plug covers.
  • Submit reports regarding required building and utility maintenance or repairs and signs of fixture or furnishing failure or abuse.
  • Report unusual circumstances related to building security and ensure doors and windows are properly secured.
  • Attend to guest requests and needs as appropriate.
  • May oversee the work of unskilled workers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred experience in institutional janitorial work or hotel work.
