Job Title: Resident Engineer
Summary :
Currently seeking a Resident Engineer for GM to support our company’s business in the Automotive Microphones and Headphones business unit. The position will be based in Farmington Hills (MI) and will involve customer-facing responsibilities in the Greater Detroit area in support of HEA’s customer GM and related Tiers. This position will work closely with the HEA engineering team and the Customer Business Units (CBU) in supporting HEA’s business development and technical support activities for various customers.
Job Responsibilities
Lead the integration aspects of ’s new product development programs at the customer’s site.
- Convey design requirements to the customer, including reserving packaging space for speakers, enclosures and amplifiers.
- Interact with the customer’s various engineering organizations, such as audio, infotainment, body-in-white, trim, instrument panel, wiring, electrical, system integration and EMC
Communicate customer design direction and changes to the design team, including program management, engineering, and sales.
- Facilitate the transfer of CAD files, specifications, change requests, roll-out plans, software tools, etc., between the customer and using data exchange systems as necessary
- Review packaging models with the customer and the development team.
- Coordinate the communication of related design documentation between the customer and , such as; specifications, GD&T requirements, connector pin-out definitions, communications protocols and wiring diagrams.
- As necessary, track engineering change requests.
First inspection of warranty parts
- Communication interface to the customer
- Forward parts and communicate to quality organizations for further analysis
Chair and/or attend customer meetings as ’s engineering representative. Coordinate meeting assignments with fellow Resident Engineers, as necessary. Provide immediate feedback to the appropriate personnel.

- Microphone/RSE/audio system open issue meeting

- Design reviews at the concept, prototype, and production stages of development
- Issue-resolution reviews following customer builds at the concept, prototype, and production stages of development
- Pilot reviews and launch-readiness meetings
Review sample parts (concept - prototype- and production-level) with the customer for immediate feedback.
- Verify integration of components in concepts, prototype- and production-level vehicles.
- Compare customer and components against CAD models, specifications, and drawings.
A report, investigate track all software integration issues discovered by the customer.
Report and negotiate engineering specifications with the customer.
Assess the customer’s mindset. Report substantial changes in the customer’s (Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing, etc.) perceptions of ’s performance to Engineering and Sales management.
Assist Sales personnel in supporting the customer, as necessary.
- Communicate all commercial issues by the customer to the appropriate Sales personnel. All cost and price related discussions are the responsibility of Sales personnel.
- Forward information on customer and competitor activities relevant to ’s interests.
- In the event that is a Tier 2 supplier, coordinate communications and meetings with the Tier 1 suppliers regarding engineering design and integration issues. On occasion, with prior agreement, in the absence of sales personnel, negotiate topics such as part delivery, shipping, packaging and product labeling with the Tier 1 supplier.
- In the absence of the Sales personnel, accompany the customer on facility visits.
- Review these and similar activities with fellow Resident Integration Engineers.
Travel periodically to support program reviews, training, etc., including some international travel. Review assignments with fellow Resident Integration Engineers, as required.
Assist in system level debug operations. Collect relevant measurements, communication logs and other data to enable design engineering to quickly resolve integration issues.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
This position requires a BS degree or equivalent in Engineering, preferably Acoustics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Experience working as an Audio/Electronics Resident Engineer with North American OEM’s
Experience working with GM Engineering Preferred
2-5 years of engineering experience in the field of acoustics and measurement or Audio/Electronics
Strong background in microphones, audio technology, audio architecture or Electronics
Background in electrical and/or mechanical automotive product development
