Mary Washington Home Health Recognized by U.S. News & World Report in Inaugural Best Home Health Ratings

Mary Washington Home Health recognized by U.S. News & World Report in inaugural Best Home Health ratings. Fredericksburg, VA (March 12, 2026) - Mary Washington Healthcare is proud to announce that Mary Washington Home Health has been named a Best Home Health agency for 2026 by U.S. News & World Report. This recognition comes as part of U.S. News' first-ever evaluation of home health providers, identifying the top-performing agencies in the United States. With more than three million patients turning to home health agencies each year, this debut analysis offers a much-needed, independent view of quality. By prioritizing patient outcomes and consumer experience for a predominantly senior population, these ratings provide clarity for families, in consultation with their physicians, making crucial care decisions. Mary Washington Home Health earned the "High Performing" designation - the highest level of recognition - for exceeding expectations in care quality and patient experience based on U.S. News' methodology. "Receiving this Best Home Health recognition from U.S. News & World Report is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the commitment our entire team brings to patient care every day," said Linda Kagarise, Director, Mary Washington Home Health. "Our clinicians are dedicated to providing safe, compassionate, and reliable care in the place people feel most comfortable - their homes. We are proud to serve our community and grateful for the trust our patients and their families place in us during some of their most vulnerable moments." In the first edition of Best Home Health, U.S. News evaluated more than 12,000 agencies across the country. Just 17% of the agencies rated were awarded the Best Home Health designation from U.S. News. "Earning the Best Home Health distinction is a significant achievement, as it is reserved only for those agencies that satisfy U.S. News' standards of care quality and patient experience," said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. The Best Home Health methodology developed by U.S. News leverages two data sets from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Data on care quality measures, including timely initiation of care and outcomes such as potentially preventable hospitalizations, were combined with patient experience surveys to produce the ratings. The ratings and underlying data for each agency, published on USNews.com, provide consumers with the trusted data and clarity they need to confidently choose, in consultation with their health care providers, the right care for a family member or themselves.

Reynolds Community College is strengthening the region's healthcare workforce through an expanded partnership with Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC), creating a seamless and innovative pathway for students pursuing careers in respiratory therapy.

Featured General Reynolds strengthens Respiratory Therapy pipeline through new Mary Washington Healthcare partnership. * 12 March 2026 Reynolds Community College is strengthening the region's healthcare workforce through an expanded partnership with Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC), creating a seamless and innovative pathway for students pursuing careers in respiratory therapy. Designed to increase access and meet growing regional demand, the collaborative program connects the strengths of Reynolds Community College, Germanna Community College, and MWHC. Students begin their journey by earning the Health Professions Preparation certificate at Germanna. They then transition to Reynolds to complete the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Respiratory Therapy. Students based in the Germanna service area complete their Reynolds coursework through real-time virtual instruction, learning alongside Richmond-based classmates. Through this synchronous model, students participate in lectures and skills lab rotations as one unified cohort, regardless of location. The structure ensures academic consistency while providing flexibility and expanded access for students in the Fredericksburg region. After building foundational knowledge and technical skills through Reynolds, students apply what they have learned in hands-on clinical experiences at Mary Washington Healthcare facilities. The newest cohort has now begun its second semester of in-person instruction and clinical training, marking an important milestone in the program's expanded partnership. Reynolds delivers the academic instruction online, while MWHC provides immersive, in-person clinical training. Together, the institutions ensure students graduate with both the theoretical understanding and practical experience required to succeed as respiratory therapists. "This partnership strengthens the pipeline of highly skilled respiratory therapists in the Fredericksburg region," said Patricia P. Lawson, Ph.D., R.N., dean of the School of Health Professions at Reynolds. "Students receive a high-quality education close to home while preparing for essential roles in patient care." Respiratory therapists play a critical role on healthcare teams, providing life-saving treatment to patients experiencing breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders. Through training on modern equipment and direct mentorship from experienced respiratory therapists and clinical educators at MWHC, students gain the confidence and competence necessary to deliver critical respiratory care in hospitals and other medical settings. Alicia Jones, respiratory therapy distance education coordinator at Reynolds, said the addition of Mary Washington Healthcare significantly enhances students' access to hands-on training while keeping them rooted in their communities. "Students can learn and work in the communities they call home, positioning them to serve those communities after graduation," Jones said. The program's design reflects a shared commitment among the partner institutions to reduce barriers to healthcare education. By allowing students to begin at Germanna, complete advanced coursework through Reynolds, and gain clinical experience at MWHC, the pathway eliminates the need for relocation while maintaining high academic and professional standards. This collaborative model not only supports student success but also addresses workforce shortages in the Fredericksburg region. By aligning education with employer needs and providing clinical training within a leading regional health system, the partnership helps ensure a steady pipeline of well-prepared respiratory therapists ready to enter the field. As the newest cohort progresses through its second semester of clinical and in-person instruction, Reynolds continues to demonstrate its commitment to accessible, high-quality programs that respond directly to community and industry demand. Prospective students, healthcare professionals, and community members are encouraged to learn more about the Respiratory Therapy AAS program and the opportunities made possible through the partnership with Germanna Community College and Mary Washington Healthcare.

Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals Receive the 2026 Women's Choice Award(R) as one of America's Best Hospitals for Outpatient Experience

Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals receive the 2026 Women's Choice Award(R) as one of America's Best Hospitals for Outpatient Experience. Fredericksburg, VA, (February 19, 2026) - Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals have been recognized as one of America's Best Hospitals for Outpatient Experience by the Women's Choice Award(R), placing them among the top-performing hospitals nationwide for delivering exceptional care in outpatient settings. As hospitals continue to shift toward value-based care and adopt minimally invasive technologies, more procedures are being performed on an outpatient basis. This shift has prompted hospitals to enhance customer service and streamline care coordination to improve the overall patient experience. "Overnight hospital stays can be stressful and costly," said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women's Choice Award(R). "With more procedures now available on an outpatient basis, it's essential that women - who often juggle demanding schedules - can easily identify hospitals that offer safe, convenient, and compassionate care." According to national research, 82% of consumers would switch healthcare providers due to poor experience, making patient satisfaction a critical factor in hospital selection. Award Methodology The Women's Choice Award(R) for Outpatient Experience is the only national designation that combines patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and women's healthcare preferences to identify top-performing hospitals. To qualify, hospitals must be accredited by one of the following: * The Joint Commission (TJC) * Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) * Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) * Det Norske Veritas Healthcare (DNV) Score at or above the national average in key categories from the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Survey (OAS-CAHPS), including: * Care by hospital staff * Pre- and post-surgical coordination & communication * Facility ratings * Patient recommendation scores Survey categories are weighted based on feedback from the Women's Choice Award's proprietary research on women's healthcare preferences. Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals are two of 450 hospitals nationwide to earn this prestigious recognition for 2026. "Earning the Women's Choice Award(R) for Outpatient Experience is a meaningful reflection of our team's unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to every patient we serve, said Christopher Newman, MD, MBA, President and CEO, Mary Washington Healthcare. "Outpatient services are a vital part of how our community accesses healthcare, and this recognition affirms that Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals are providing safe, seamless, and patient-centered care at every step. We are proud of our teams and grateful to our patients for placing their trust in us."
