Requirements
  • Strong experience in project accounting, ideally within an advertising, experiential, production, professional services or other project-based environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of revenue recognition, including accrued/unbilled revenue and deferred/unearned revenue.
  • Experience managing high volumes of project costs, client billing and project reconciliations.
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations and month-end accounting processes.
  • Experience working with purchase orders and client procurement processes.
  • Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage a large number of projects and outstanding items simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with senior internal and client stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to following outstanding items through to resolution.
  • Ability to bridge Finance and Operations while balancing financial discipline with the practical realities of a fast-moving client business.
Responsibilities
  • Own the financial oversight of approximately 100–150 client projects annually.
  • Maintain accurate project financials, including budgets, committed costs, actual costs, billings and project-level profitability.
  • Ensure production costs and employee expenses are accurately captured and allocated to the appropriate projects.
  • Monitor project financial activity from initiation through final reconciliation and close.
  • Identify financial discrepancies, aging items and project risks and proactively drive them to resolution.
  • Maintain strong financial controls while supporting the speed and flexibility required in an agency environment.
  • Identify areas for efficiency and cost reductions.
  • Own the financial workflow between project teams to ensure projects are billed accurately and on time.
  • Work with internal teams to obtain required purchase orders and client approvals ahead of billing deadlines.
  • Maintain visibility over outstanding purchase orders, unbilled activity and billing status across the portfolio.
  • Manage accrued/unbilled revenue, deferred/unearned revenue and related balance sheet positions, ensuring appropriate revenue recognition and timely clearing of balances.
  • Partner with the Accounts Receivable team to ensure invoices are raised accurately and promptly and help resolve client billing questions or disputes.
  • Own financial reporting associated with the approximately 150-person staffing model supporting The Kitchen.
  • Maintain visibility into contracted positions, filled roles, vacancies, start dates and departures.
  • Prepare regular vacancy reporting showing contracted headcount versus actual staffed headcount and the associated financial impact.
  • Ensure staffing changes are appropriately reflected in client reporting and billing.
  • Partner with Recruiting, Operations and Finance to reconcile staffing information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Serve as the primary Finance liaison between Salt Finance, The Kitchen leadership and relevant client stakeholders.
  • Provide timely, clear and proactive communication regarding billing, purchase orders, project financials, staffing, vacancies and other financial matters.
  • Translate financial information into practical insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Establish regular reporting and communication rhythms for stakeholders.
  • Build relationships across Finance, Operations, Recruiting, Production and client teams.
  • Produce regular client and internal financial reporting covering project activity, production spend, billing, purchase orders, staffing and vacancies.
  • Support month-end close by ensuring project revenue, costs, accruals and deferrals are complete and accurate.
  • Reconcile project-related balance sheet accounts and investigate aging balances.
  • Maintain schedules for unbilled revenue, deferred/unearned revenue, accrued costs and other project-related accounts.
  • Develop and continuously improve processes, trackers and reporting that make the financial administration of The Kitchen simple, transparent and scalable.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual work and improve financial controls without creating unnecessary bureaucracy for operational teams.

How agencies are reshaping junior-level roles and training in the AI era. Published 04.30.2026 * Artificial Intelligence * Culture * Future of the Agency * HR/Talent/Inclusion * Staff Development * Talent More than half of agencies pulled back on entry-level hiring as AI took over many tasks once handled by junior staff, with 57% reporting that they had slowed or paused hiring for such roles, a report last August showed. Stats like that have caused anxiety among emerging talent trying to enter the ad industry, but numbers don't paint a full picture. Experiential commerce agency Salt XC, for example, hired 100 employees within the last two months, with the majority being entry-level. Ad Age spoke with 18 agency executives, hiring managers and other industry leaders who are reworking their team structures to find new jobs and opportunities for juniors. Some of those opportunities have actually opened up as a result of AI. Other agencies are introducing apprenticeships and shadowing that offer training on higher-level skills that AI can't replace. "AI is in its infancy," said Allen & Gerritsen (A&G) CEO Andrew Graff, adding, "We're going to need a whole new set of skills." The 4As is also working on expanding The Face of Talent, its annual summer week of programming around talent initiatives, to provide more year-round training to help agencies restructure their workforces so they can continue to hire junior talent. "We're also going to be looking at things like organizational design within agencies. What does the new talent team need to look like?" said Justin Thomas-Copeland, CEO of the 4As. Canadian indie Salt XC buys US agency Craft & Commerce to expand media offerings

Toronto-based independent agency Salt XC has acquired Craft & Commerce, a full-service media agency with offices in New York, Chicago and Florida. This marks Salt XC's second US acquisition in a year as it expands its North American presence despite ongoing trade tensions between the US and Canada. The acquisition strengthens Salt XC's regional reach and media capabilities, combining experiential marketing with retail media expertise. Clients include Kraft-Heinz, AB InBev, Adidas and Chobani. Craft & Commerce will continue operating under its own name for now. Salt XC's previous acquisition of AI-driven agency Nectar First has enhanced its technological capabilities. Analyst Andrew Lipsman called the move a natural fit, noting both agencies' forward-thinking approach to retail media and experiential activation. Financial terms were not disclosed.
