Requirements
  • A university, bachelor's, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Food Science or Chemistry.
  • At least one year of related experience, preferably in the meat industry.
  • Basic knowledge of Canadian Food Inspection Agency Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and Global Food Safety Initiative British Retail Consortium requirements.
  • Attention to detail and good time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to take immediate appropriate action to ensure food safety is not compromised.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kilograms when required.
  • Flexibility to work other shifts and overtime.
Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-operational inspections of operating equipment when required before handoff for startup.
  • Perform line checks to ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Monitor line settings and document them according to process-control requirements.
  • Follow food-safety and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point principles.
  • Audit, assess, and report compliance with documented process-control standards.
  • Perform critical-control-point checks, pre-shipment reviews, and allergen checks as outlined in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point requirements and the Quality Control Plan.
  • Troubleshoot processing lines and provide solutions to operations that address manufacturing and food-safety requirements.
  • Evaluate held product, suggest disposition, and inform appropriate Quality Assurance personnel as required.
  • Inspect raw-material and outgoing products and report deficiencies and off-specification products to the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Perform daily operational, room-temperature, metal-detection, building, and locker inspections.
  • Complete quality-control documents accurately and without errors.
  • Review and verify production records for completion and accuracy.
  • Monitor ongoing Good Manufacturing Practices compliance.
  • Collect samples, including swabs, raw materials, and products.
  • Perform sensory evaluations and in-house laboratory organoleptic and microbial product testing.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager or designate.
