Requirements
  • Licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
  • Graduation from a State-approved program of practical nurse education.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-specialty physician practices and locations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively understand physician instructions and patient needs.
  • Ability to be flexible and learn new procedures, processes, and medical specialties.
  • Ability to train medical assistants by providing clarity and leadership.
  • Strong and accurate computer data-entry skills for documenting medical information in electronic medical records.
  • Four years of related work experience, including two years in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school-level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Ability to meet healthcare-worker health requirements, including required vaccinations, immunity documentation, and tuberculosis screening.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient histories and medical information.
  • Assist with medical and minor surgical procedures.
  • Assess, report, and record vital signs and measurements.
  • Collect specimens.
  • Observe patients for physical or emotional changes and report observations.
  • Prepare examining rooms and select, set up, and maintain medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment for patients.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and record patient information.
  • Prepare patients for continuing care after treatment.
  • Instruct other LPNs when needed and serve as a source of information on nursing matters for the section.
  • Administer medications under the direction and authority of professional medical staff when authorized.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient and test appointments.
  • Perform additional functions incidental to nursing activities.
  • Implement therapeutic and medical regimens for patients.
  • Contribute to patient care plans and perform patient assessments.
  • Support physicians and nursing staff in clinical and administrative functions.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare policies and standards.
  • Assist with patient and family education.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to HIPAA guidelines protecting patient confidentiality.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience as an LPN, preferably in a multi-specialty or outpatient clinic environment.
