Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in engineering.
  • Working knowledge of systems associated with guestrooms and meeting-room operations and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, appliance operational problems, and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of physics and ability to read gauges.
  • Knowledge of fire/life safety systems, emergency generators, central plants, laundry/valet operations, swimming pools, and kitchen systems.
  • Knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal.
  • Working knowledge of health, plumbing, electrical, local mechanical, and national/local fire codes.
  • Working knowledge of water treatment programs.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints and wiring schematics.
  • Working knowledge of power and hand tools, meters, and gauges as they relate to technical trade plant equipment.
  • Fluency in job-related English, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Ability to provide legible communication and directions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to transport items weighing 50–150 pounds throughout the hotel.
  • Ability to perform physical movements throughout work areas, including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise engineering operations and oversee repairs, maintenance, upkeep, and replacement of the property's refrigeration and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment in accordance with hotel standards and applicable inspection codes.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance for building equipment, guestrooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and hotel operational areas.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental policies, service procedures, standards, and correct equipment use.
  • Maintain working knowledge of hotel systems, including electrical distribution and lighting, television antenna systems, fire/life safety systems, emergency generators, central plants, swimming pools, laundry/valet systems, kitchen heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
  • Respond promptly to guests, maintain positive guest relations, and resolve guest complaints to ensure satisfaction.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and safety of assigned work areas.
  • Discuss daily assignments with the Chief Engineer and assign tasks, priorities, and special projects to team members.
  • Assist team members with tasks, projects, house calls, and immediate deficiency calls.
  • Train and coach team members, including new hires.
  • Participate in creating job-task checklists and training plans.
  • Organize materials, tools, and equipment for daily assignments.
  • Maintain timelines and work schedules in accordance with the preventive maintenance program.
  • Check work orders and engineering service-request logs, inspect problem areas, and document required information and safety concerns.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance in rooms while coordinating with Executive Housekeeping and Front Office.
  • Maintain par stock levels of standard fixtures and supplies and assist with ordering.
  • Operate, maintain, repair, and replace heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, including air handling units, controls, filters, dampers, bearings, coils, heaters, thermostats, and pulleys.
  • Operate, maintain, repair, and replace refrigeration equipment, including coolers, freezers, ice machines, and water fountains/coolers.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical equipment, pneumatic controls, air compressors, oil separators, water separators and dryers, air-dryer cooling systems, air regulators, cooling towers, and hot-water-heater safety controls.
  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and replacement of kitchen equipment and fire/life safety systems.
  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and replacement of plumbing equipment and systems and with banquet electrical setup.
  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and replacement of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and replacement of fire/life safety equipment and systems, including fire pumps and emergency generators.
  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and replacement of laundry/valet equipment and systems.
  • Operate and maintain plant equipment and systems, including chillers and cooling towers.
  • Maintain pumps, including chilled-water and condenser pumps, packing glands, drip lines, couplings, alignments, motor greasing, and motor and pump replacement or repair.
  • Change filter banks and maintain electrostatic filters according to schedule.
