Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational or technical training is required.
  • A few years of mortgage and/or collections experience are required.
  • Knowledge of government-sponsored enterprise and conventional default collections guidelines is required.
  • A clear understanding of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to maintain composure under pressure and in confrontational situations are required.
  • Strong analytical abilities and active listening skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Respond to borrower requests by phone and email using appropriate collections and counseling techniques while adhering to Virginia Housing, federal, state, investor, and insurer regulations and guidelines.
  • Research and resolve inquiries by collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Collect on all stages of delinquent accounts, determine appropriate action to bring loans current, and handle loss mitigation calls.
  • Send borrower assistance packages.
  • Handle inbound loss mitigation calls.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for mortgagors regarding past-due loans and provide professional service to borrowers.
  • Perform preliminary loss mitigation reviews to determine hardships and identify potential loss mitigation candidates.
