Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant-Certified program and current Medical Assistant-Certified licensure issued by the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Current Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified licensure.
  • Current CPR certification and completion of state-mandated HIV education.
  • Ability to read and write proficiently in English.
  • Ability to calculate medical dosages, including milligrams to milliliters.
  • Ability to analyze and present data for reports.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, electronic health records, electrocardiogram monitors, retinal cameras, and other technical resources as needed.
  • Ability to become fully proficient with the organization's patient management and electronic health record systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties accurately and timely, including meeting the physical demands of standing, handling materials, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to interact sensitively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to maintain the physical health, emotional stability, and personal suitability required to meet the physical, mental, emotional, and social needs of the population served.
Responsibilities
  • Track and document all clinical measures and outcomes in the electronic health record through thorough patient record reviews.
  • Coordinate and process internal and external patient referrals in accordance with established protocols, working with Referral Coordinators when applicable.
  • Prepare for and participate in care-team huddles by collecting clinic forms, quality measures, laboratory and radiology reports, medication confirmations, and other information needed for patient visits.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document all relevant patient information, care provided, and processes in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting them according to protocol.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as well as oral, rectal, and inhaled medications ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization records.
  • Maintain medication storage, dispensing, maintenance, and waste logs, and report noncompliance to the supervisor or manager.
  • Perform and document required quality controls and report noncompliance to the supervisor or manager.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Report abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Use aseptic technique and follow infection-control and standard-precaution procedures.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with streamlining and implementing pod and patient-flow systems.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals for specialty care, care coordination, and other services, including providing required laboratory results and electronic health record notes to specialist offices.
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results and patient notes and records from hospitals and other physicians' offices.
  • Use AIDET to provide customer service and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Address patient and outside-provider messages as quickly as possible and no later than one business day.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff, the direct supervisor, and patients.
  • Manage biohazardous waste.
  • Assist with pharmacy requests.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the nursing functions of the electronic health record and practice-management applications.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, quality-measure, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality-improvement, and contractual requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency as a scribe when assigned scribe duties.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Provide shadowing opportunities for new staff when assigned.
  • Perform quality-improvement audits and participate in organizational committees when assigned.
  • Close chart notes within 24 hours of service and support established daily patient-visit volumes.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow all medical, nursing, health and safety, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Travel to another Sea Mar site when required by staffing and patient needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish is preferred.
