Purpose/Description
The Retirement Specialist 1 assists with the administration of defined benefit, defined contribution and hybrid plans for employees and Executives of Wayne County, Wayne County Airport Authority, Wayne County Third Circuit Court, Wayne County Probate Court, and DWIHN. The Retirement Specialist will complete service investigations to confirm employee's credited service and answer general inquiries about retirement eligibility, review multiple collective bargaining agreements and/or other related policies and procedures to process benefit estimates and finals for multiple types of retirements, such as: Regular Service, Incentive, Deferred, Duty Disability, and Non-Duty Disability, counsel employees on the retirement process and benefits, schedule and conduct retirement appointments/exit interviews and provide additional retirement resource information.
Educational Requirements/Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; AND
- Four (4) years of relevant experience in business, finance or accounting/bookkeeping.
NOTE: Completion of education at an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience.
Required Tasks
- Process Retirement Estimates for multiple types of retirements, such as: Service, Incentive, Deferred, Duty Disability, Non-Duty Disability for Wayne County, Wayne County Airport Authority, Wayne County 3rd Circuit Court, Wayne County Probate Court, DWMHA, and Executives.
- Calculate pension and annuitant benefits in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements and other related policies and procedures for all retirement system members covering Plans 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
- Review multiple Collective Bargaining Agreements to process estimates, finals, and answer general inquiries about retirement eligibility.
- Complete Service Investigations for employees wanting to confirm their years of service.
- Conduct Retirement Appointments to assist members and/or their surviving beneficiaries to apply for benefits
- Research and evaluate employee files to determine eligibility for benefits and to address customer inquiries
- Process retirement finals for Management and Board approval.
- Generate reports to obtain wage and service information about customers or applicants.
- Respond to customer problems or complaints, provide resolution within limits, escalate issues to Management as necessary
- Enter information into databases or software programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned
