Requirements
  • Three to five years of experience as a Process Engineer in the production of primary metals, including steel, aluminum, or copper, with knowledge of the relationship between process inputs and outputs.
  • A bachelor's degree in a physical science such as Physics or Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Chemical Engineering, or another related degree.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to lift and handle product samples that may have sharp edges or burrs.
  • Ability to work around corrosive and volatile process chemicals, extreme heat or cold, dusty or smoky environments, loud noise, mobile equipment, overhead cranes, moving machinery, and potentially slippery floors.
  • Ability to walk up to one-quarter mile between locations, climb and descend stairs and ladders, stand for long periods, and work outdoors or in reduced-light environments.
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel.
Responsibilities
  • Provide process engineering support and education to operators and supervisors in the Bar Mill, Cast Shop, and Rolling Mill, with limited support to Architectural Services.
  • Monitor, control, and recommend improvements to manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Specify processing steps and parameters to manufacture rolled products that meet customer requirements.
  • Lead projects focused on continuous improvement of production processes.
  • Investigate production process needs.
  • Coordinate and implement projects and action plans.
  • Review customer requirements and specifications against manufacturing capabilities.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Evaluate customer inquiries for manufacturability and advise Customer Support and Marketing about unusual requirements affecting lead time, production cost, or efficiency.
  • Review and recommend changes to Revere ASTM/CDA documentation and standards.
  • Determine alternative processing options to best use available mill machinery capacity.
  • Create and modify Product Masters, Process Masters, Customer Testing Element Files, Packaging Instructions, and New Material Request Documentation.
  • Analyze and respond to customer complaints and corrective-action requests.
  • Report root causes and corrective actions for customer complaints.
  • Refer off-quality products to affected customers through Customer Support.
  • Visit customers, outside processors, and MRO vendors as necessary.
  • Perform capability and control statistical studies internally and externally.
  • Complete and maintain Advanced Product Quality Planning demands, including Production Part Approval Process documentation, Capability Studies, Part Warrants, Gaging Repeatability and Reproducibility, Process Flow Diagrams, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and tools to monitor process parameters, including dimensional gauging tools, thermometric devices, process data recording devices, hand-held tools, and hand-held profilometers.
  • Perform laboratory testing such as pH, hardness, and conductivity testing.
  • Conduct process walks to observe materials, processes, and operators.
  • Create dispositions for non-compliant product.
  • Lead or participate in mill tours for visiting customers, vendors, and community members.
  • Attend architectural trade shows and periodic meetings with Operations, Quality, Sales, and Marketing.
  • Attend weekly Reliability and Maintenance Planning Meetings and backlog meetings.
  • Create and modify Job Instructions, Quality Assurance Plans, Job Instruction Books, and On-the-Job Training materials within the Revere Document Control System.
  • Participate in audits by independent third parties and customers.
  • Perform internal audits, write audit findings, and lead discussions at audit closing meetings.
  • Perform metallographic investigations on samples to help determine defect root causes.
  • Report key process and product metrics to various levels of the organization.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience in the manufacture and quality management of primary metals, including copper, steel, or aluminum, and in mechanical and physical material testing of metals.
  • Experience with problem-solving methodology, containment and corrective-action processes, and Advanced Product Quality Planning techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of Statistical Process Control techniques.
  • A bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Extractive Metallurgy, or Refractory Engineering.
  • Six Sigma certification and experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning methodology.
  • Graduate studies or a master's degree.
