Asia finance boost for Stephenson Harwood.

Asia finance boost for Stephenson Harwood. A structured finance and securitisation specialist arrives from TN Partners with her team in tow. Stephenson Harwood has hired Michelle Taylor as a partner in its Hong Kong-based finance team, effective today (1 September). Arriving from local law firm TN Partners, Taylor brings more than three decades' experience guiding clients on cross-border financing across Asia-Pacific and Europe. Her work focuses on asset-backed and receivables debt capital market deals, with particular experience in securitisation, security packages, structured bonds, credit derivatives, development bank financings, cross-border tax-driven structures, and real estate and trade finance. Cross-border securitisation techniques, including future receivables financing for shipping companies and airlines, form a key part of Taylor's practice. Taylor began her legal career with a three-year tenure at Clifford Chance's London office before joining Sidley Austin Brown & Wood (now Sidley Austin) in Hong Kong in 1997. She later practised at Paul Hastings, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Jones Day before departing for Tiang & Partners (now TN Partners) in 2018, where she most recently served as a managing partner. Taylor is joined at Stephenson Harwood by her team, which includes of counsel David Low, whom she previously worked with at both TN Partners and Jones Day. Drawing the curtain on an eight-year stint at TN Partners, Low brings expertise spanning cross-border banking, securitisation, finance and debt capital markets. Stephenson Harwood finance head James Linforth commented: "Michelle's extensive experience in structured finance and securitisation, particularly in the transportation, private capital, and technology sectors, aligns with the firm's areas of focus, and adds bench strength to our finance practice in Asia." "As clients across the region seek sophisticated solutions for complex financings and new funding models, Michelle's expertise will be invaluable," Linforth continued. Evangeline Quek, Greater China managing partner, added that the hire responded to "strong growth in structured finance markets both in Hong Kong and throughout Asia".

Stephenson Harwood advises Eagle Football Group and Olympique Lyonnais on debt restructuring.

Stephenson Harwood advises Eagle Football Group and Olympique Lyonnais on debt restructuring. Law firm Stephenson Harwood has advised Eagle Football Group and its subsidiary Olympique Lyonnais SASU on the restructuring of the group's debt with its main creditors. The transaction forms part of the acquisition of control of Eagle Football Group by Olympe Bidco, the acquisition vehicle established by Michele Kang. Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited - previously controlled by John Textor, majority shareholder of Eagle Football Group - was placed into administration under English law in March 2026. The administrators launched a competitive sale process over its assets. Following that process, Michele Kang, President of Eagle Football Group, acquired 87.78% of the share capital via Olympe Bidco, a French company wholly owned by her indirectly. The acquisition included a restructuring agreement with the senior secured creditors of Olympique Lyonnais SASU, covering the rescheduling of existing financing arrangements including the group's senior term and revolving facilities, and €320 million in securitised debt. A significant proportion of the OL group's debt owed to Eagle Football entities was also cancelled. Michele Kang has committed to injecting new funds into the OL group over the next two seasons. Completion of the transaction occurred on 26 June 2026 and was subject to Olympique Lyonnais retaining its place in Ligue 1, which was confirmed by the DNCG. Particularly strategic and complex given its economic significance and international scope, this matter demonstrates Stephenson Harwood's expertise in securitisation and structured finance transactions. The team advising the OL group leveraged the capabilities of Stephenson Harwood's Paris and London offices. The Stephenson Harwood team advising Groupe OL included Paris-based Finance Partner Florent Rigaud and Managing Associate Hugo Le Ridou, and Restructuring & Insolvency Partner Ian Benjamin in London.
