Requirements
  • Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited program in Sonography, registered or registry eligible in the fields of Abdomen, Physics or Cardiac sonography
  • Maintains current CEU credits
  • Provides copies of the above-mentioned documents to be kept on file in the Radiology Department
Responsibilities
  • Following established departmental policies and procedures, performs Ultrasound procedures with a minimum of supervision and maintains accurate and complete records relative to the procedure performed
  • Demonstrate competency in the use of all applicable aspects of the Meditch Computer System
  • Explain the procedure to the patient prior to the scan, ensure the appropriate exam is ordered and obtain all pertinent clinical history
  • Perform exams in a manner consistent with the patients' physical, psychological and social needs; ensure patient safety and provide comfort and manage patient pain
  • Be independently able to operate ultrasound equipment to produce and process images and contribute to patient satisfaction and exam quality following Milton hospital policies
  • Familiar with emergency equipment and supplies and respond to emergencies; document and report all occurrences within the Ultrasound Department
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly fashion and adhere to infection control standards; understand and practice proper use of equipment per manufacturer's guidelines
  • Notify the Director of Radiology of situations affecting ability to carry out Ultrasound procedures
  • Organize the daily work schedule; assist in maintaining inventory and order supplies as needed
  • Communicate with reception staff to minimize patient waiting and ensure high patient satisfaction; act as resource for referring physicians and radiologist
  • Consider cultural beliefs and practices; utilize interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency
  • Collaborate with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care; provide care appropriate to patient age groups served
  • Report equipment malfunctions; initiate and document service calls for Ultrasound equipment; supervise and document quality control and assurance; organize preventative maintenance schedules
  • Ensure department compliance with Joint Commission guidelines; assist Sr. Ultrasound Technologist in inspections and certifications
  • Transport patients as needed; provide on-call coverage and different shifts as assigned
  • Maintain competencies required for the patient population served
  • May perform similar or related duties on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety laws and hospital policies
