Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering and two years of experience in the field or a related area are required.
  • Experience performing hazard analyses and safety compliance in accordance with JPR 1700.1, the JSC Safety and Health Handbook, is required.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and mentoring skills are required.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Applicants must be able to sit for extended periods, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and enter necessary test-facility areas.
  • Applicants must be able to work outside the normal schedule and adjust their schedule during peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Applicants must maintain professional behavior, appropriate grooming and dress, regular attendance, and the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
Responsibilities
  • Perform trade-off studies, analysis, systems interfacing, and coordination of analyses, testing, and verification efforts.
  • Analyze engineering concepts based on requirements, mission needs, and system improvement needs.
  • Contribute to the Amentum Beyond Zero safety culture and foster teamwork across the Facility and Test Department, Amentum, and NASA customers.
  • Review facility systems, support equipment, functional specifications, and operations, and establish risk levels and safety requirements for assigned tests and facilities.
  • Analyze and recommend safety criteria for test hardware, system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Perform system safety engineering for multiple programs and projects, participate in project reviews, and ensure system safety tasks and responsibilities are identified and on schedule.
  • Create facility hardware hazard analyses for flight hardware testing using hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis.
  • Develop hazard controls and verifications based on identified hazards.
  • Research, develop, and present completed analyses to facility managers and the Test Readiness Review Board.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Electrical Engineering degree and extensive documented experience in a NASA or other space-related environment are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NASA and industry safety codes, standards, and processes and their application in a facility test system environment is highly desired.
