Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of sonography and meet American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers eligibility guidelines.
  • Be registered as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Maintain a current Basic Life Support/HealthCare Provider certificate.
  • Have knowledge of routine ultrasound procedures, including potentially invasive procedures such as biopsies, amniocentesis, thoracentesis, breast cyst aspiration, and breast localization, as well as Doppler, three-dimensional/four-dimensional, and pediatric sonography.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the radiologist to perform diagnostic sonographic examinations.
  • Use professional judgment in service delivery and maintain a demeanor consistent with quality care.
  • Deliver appropriate care, recognize patient conditions, and ensure successful completion of procedures.
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Assess patients’ physical conditions and age-specific needs.
  • Provide instructions to achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Perform proper patient identification, acquire patients’ clinical histories, and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Position patients, equipment, and associated devices, and manipulate technical factors to achieve high-quality images for interpretation.
  • Assess diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Understand and comply with quality-control standards and participate in all quality-control tasks.
  • Administer medical aid as required during emergency situations.
  • Apply standard precautions and use personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination from contagious diseases.
  • Assist in supervising student sonographers.
  • Use all corporate radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensure the safety of all customers.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and laws.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, department guidelines, and education requirements.
  • Follow established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area and equipment.
  • Keep work areas well stocked and organized.
  • Work at any facility as required by operational needs or organizational demands.
  • Provide patient transport.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging. The facility offers advanced treatments including bispecific therapies and clinical trial participation, with plans to expand outpatient cell therapy programmes. Six board-certified medical oncologists and haematologists, supported by four advanced practice practitioners, provide care through a collaborative, patient-centred model. The opening represents a hospital-specialty collaboration aimed at bringing complex therapies closer to patients' homes.
