Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program and a Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant program.
  • A current Washington State Medical Assistant Certified license, or an interim license with the examination passed within the 90-day probationary period.
  • Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Ability to read and write proficiently in English.
  • Ability to calculate medical dosages, such as milligrams to milliliters.
  • Ability to analyze and present data for reports.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, electronic health records, electrocardiogram monitors, retinal cameras, and other technical resources as needed.
  • Proficiency with Sea Mar’s patient management and electronic health record systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Compliance with employee health screening requirements and required influenza vaccination policy.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including frequent lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to interact sensitively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and meet the physical, mental, emotional, and social needs of the population served.
Responsibilities
  • Track and document all clinical quality measures and patient outcomes in the electronic health record, including reviewing records and addressing patient care gaps.
  • Coordinate and process internal and external patient referrals according to established protocols, working with Referral Coordinators when applicable.
  • Assist medical providers in serving an average of 18 to 21 patients per day, depending on provider type.
  • Identify age-specific patient needs and clinical measures for infant, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Identify patients’ clinical needs according to diagnosis and follow clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Prepare for and participate in the Care Team Huddle, collecting clinic forms, quality measures, laboratory and x-ray reports, medication confirmations, and other information needed for patient visits.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document relevant patient information, care provided, and processes in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting them according to protocol.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as well as oral, rectal, and inhaled medications ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization data and lists.
  • Maintain medication storage, dispensing, maintenance, and waste logs in accordance with policy.
  • Perform and document required quality controls and report non-compliance to the supervisor or manager.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Use clear and concise written and verbal communication when providing care and coordinating with the team.
  • Report abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Use aseptic technique and follow infection-control and standard-precaution requirements.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with implementing pod and patient-flow systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals for specialty care, care coordination, and other services, including providing laboratory results and electronic health record notes to specialist offices.
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results and patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • Use AIDET to provide customer service and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Resolve clinical phone calls referred by the supervisor or manager within one business day.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff, the direct supervisor, and patients.
  • Manage biohazardous waste and assist with pharmacy requests.
  • Apply nursing parameters within the electronic health record and practice-management applications.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Clinical Quality Measures, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality-improvement, and contractual requirements.
  • Perform scribe duties when assigned and demonstrate proficiency as a scribe.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Close chart notes within 24 hours of service and complete quality-care gaps for all patients treated.
  • Support Follow My Health enrollment and provide services according to the required daily patient volume.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability is strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Family Medicine is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish is preferred.
