Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field is required.
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in an electrical engineering role delivering complex, multidisciplinary hardware projects is required.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with schematic capture and printed circuit board layout software, such as Altium Designer, for complex power electronics is required.
  • Direct experience with high-voltage systems of 800 volts or more, including clearance and creepage standards, galvanic isolation, and high-voltage safety practices, is required.
  • Experience designing motor controller systems and integrating custom control logic with commercial off-the-shelf motor drive boards is required.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external clients and drive critical technical decisions is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan the technical and programmatic aspects of controller architecture.
  • Define and review complete electrical architectures to ensure high-voltage safety and performance.
  • Identify and manage technical and programmatic risks, including redundancy and reliability risks.
  • Identify key components such as microcontroller units and commercial off-the-shelf motor drive printed circuit boards.
  • Lead technical teams through successful hardware project completion.
  • Lead brainstorms, review printed circuit board layouts, provide technical guidance, and assist with debugging and troubleshooting during hardware integration and validation and verification activities.
  • Develop schematics and layouts for custom printed circuit boards that bridge custom microcontroller units, motor drive boards, and system interfaces.
  • Design robust, safe power-electronics circuitry capable of handling 800-volt systems, including solid-state or electromechanical switching circuits that multiplex between high-voltage inputs.
  • Conduct trade studies and analyses to support design decisions, including one-motor versus two-motor redundancy and optimal controller-to-motor mapping.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to define and manage Interface Control Documents and select communication protocols such as CAN, CAN-FD, and Ethernet.
  • Oversee the integration of high-voltage hardware and work with Mechanical Engineers on packaging and thermal management of power electronics.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in printed circuit board design and high-voltage safety.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace, electric vehicle, or robotics industries.
  • Familiarity with aerospace hardware standard DO-254 or automotive standard ISO 26262.
  • Experience conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis for redundant hardware architectures.
  • A portfolio of successfully launched, high-power electromechanical products.
