Requirements
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification or the Board of Certification, or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current American Board for Certification Board-Eligibility.
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company motor vehicle safety standards.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure in states where required.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of prosthetic and orthotic componentry and its suitability for specific uses.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds independently and lift patients using biomedical techniques frequently throughout a work shift.
  • Physical ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly, with fine motor skills adequate for preparing equipment and supplies.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to maintain records, understand directions, and recognize individuals.
  • Candidates certified in one discipline must be willing to complete a residency in the other discipline if seeing patients in both.
  • Candidates without certification or board-eligibility must have at least 5 years of demonstrated experience providing prosthetic and orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs for prosthetic and orthotic services and recommend treatment options.
  • Examine patients to assess functional loss and formulate the design of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Select materials, take cast measurements, perform model modifications, and create layouts using new techniques and materials.
  • Perform fitting of devices, including static and dynamic alignments, and adjust for fit, function, and medical efficacy.
  • Instruct patients on the proper use of prosthetic and orthotic devices and provide follow-up care to patients and physicians.
  • Identify and reconcile issues to ensure patient satisfaction with provided devices.
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health care professionals regarding orthotic and prosthetic services.
  • Utilize materials management and quality processes to maximize device quality while maintaining operational and financial performance.
  • Meet with physicians, case managers, and referral sources to develop business relationships and secure future referrals.
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets in coordination with management.
  • Maintain detailed clinical notes in patient records and provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities.
  • Adhere to safety regulations, Medicare and governmental regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians and provide assistance to other clinical staff.
  • Perform on-call duties, hospital calls, or float between multiple clinic locations as required by operational needs.

Hanger acquires Liberating Technologies to advance prosthetic research and development

Hanger, Inc., a leading orthotic and prosthetic patient care provider, has acquired Liberating Technologies, Inc. (LTI), a research organisation founded in 2000 and previously owned by Coapt. LTI's research team has secured numerous government-funded grants since 2008 to develop next-generation technologies for the orthotic and prosthetic field. LTI will join Hanger Ventures and the Hanger Institute for Clinical Research and Education to drive innovation in clinical care. The team will continue current grant-funded initiatives, including advancing voice-recognition technology for prosthesis control and developing socket cooling systems for residual limb skin health. Hanger acquired Coapt, LTI's previous owner, in 2025. With this acquisition, the complete Coapt portfolio now belongs to Hanger, which operates more than 925 clinic locations across the United States.
