Course Description:

EDES 361-002 Teaching Secondary English 1

Examination of appropriate materials related to the high school English programs; exploration of various techniques of teaching language, literature, writing and dramatics in the secondary school.

Term: Winter 2026

Course Credits: 3

Location: EDUC 338

Schedule: Monday & Wednesday, 02:35 pm-03:55 pm

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education:

• MA in a relevant field (i.e. English Language Arts-Secondary programs).

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset.

Experience:

1.Expert knowledge of:

• Quebec Education Plan (QEP) Secondary English Language Arts (SELA) competencies & Progression of Learning.

• Instructional strategies for ELA.

• Methods of evaluation in different ELA contexts .

• Lesson designs and learning evaluation situations using Understanding by Design framework.

2.Experience as a Secondary master/teacher/instructor in the Quebec educational system.

3.Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation .

Other:

• Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate or graduate level.

• Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.

• Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences.

• Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset.

• Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools.

• Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors 

• Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting in advance of course start date

• A commitment to working collaboratively in planning and delivering the course
