Requirements
  • Possess a two-year technical degree in a related field and five years of experience as a mechanic, with sound knowledge of mechanical maintenance, fabrication, and installation procedures.
  • Have sound knowledge of plant business processes, especially maintenance, inventory, and procurement functions.
  • Have strong organizational skills.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Have interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with production, maintenance, and other plant personnel at hourly and staff levels, motivate others, and promote a positive work atmosphere.
  • Be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to work effectively with all levels of employees within the company.
  • Demonstrate willingness to challenge conventional ideas, remain flexible and innovative, and function effectively in a team format.
  • Have strong computer skills and familiarity with Windows, Word, and Excel; familiarity with Oracle CMMS is advantageous.
  • Be able to accurately scope maintenance jobs by determining the labor, materials, tools, procedures, and other requirements needed to coordinate work activities effectively.
  • Be MSHA certified or complete 24 hours of MSHA New Employee Training provided by a qualified individual.
  • Complete additional refresher safety training as required by management or MSHA regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Receive and screen maintenance work requests, discuss details with originating departments, and ensure work scopes are clearly described.
  • Plan maintenance work requests by defining job steps and determining required parts, materials, special tools, skills, manpower, and time; incorporate Safety Task Review procedures and maintenance standard operating procedures into planned work.
  • Determine the availability of parts, materials, and special tools; submit purchase requisitions for unavailable items.
  • Maintain the backlog of planned work orders and monitor purchase requisitions so work orders can be scheduled when requirements are met.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance work orders are scheduled and performed according to established frequencies, and work with the Maintenance group to improve the preventive maintenance program.
  • Develop maintenance schedules for required shifts and coordinate work scheduling with Production and Maintenance Team Leaders.
  • Communicate with Production, Maintenance, and Project Engineering regarding maintenance challenges and long-range needs, and coordinate problem-solving to reduce emergency and unscheduled work.
  • Conduct special studies and investigations for Department Managers.
  • Control maintenance work-order closeout, ensuring charges are properly assigned and maintenance records are accurate.
  • Conduct completed job-plan audits to ensure planning reflects current conditions and performance.
  • Improve the maintenance department through 5S, Total Productive Maintenance, and daily management control.
  • Improve equipment effectiveness through equipment and process improvements.
  • Provide forward- and backward-facing performance metrics.
  • Prioritize work based on plant needs and input from department supervisors.
  • Analyze mechanical problems to determine repair or rebuild techniques that minimize costs and ensure quality results; recommend whether work should be performed in-house or by contractors.
  • Train mechanics in the skills needed to perform their jobs.
  • Act as the primary employee-relations contact, resolve personnel problems and complaints where possible, and refer other matters to higher supervision.
  • Orient and train new mechanical personnel on departmental policies and safety procedures.
  • Establish contact with the workforce to support employee morale and cooperation.
  • Evaluate subordinate work performance and provide feedback on strengths and weaknesses.
  • Make good-faith efforts to achieve department equal employment opportunity objectives and ensure personnel practices are fair and consistent with government regulations.
  • Study equipment functions and recommend mechanical spare-parts inventory requirements.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance and lubrication programs in assigned areas.
  • Perform clerical duties including writing purchase requisitions and work orders, contacting vendors, and approving timecards.
  • Establish employee goals aligned with plant and department objectives and enter them into the Performance Management system.
  • Complete employee annual and mid-year performance evaluations in the Performance Management system and deliver one-on-one performance reviews.
  • Assist in developing individual performance-improvement plans.
  • Instruct the team on required work methods and safety requirements, including potential hazards.
  • Confirm that facilities are available and the correct number of personnel are assigned to each job.
  • Arrange materials that are short or were not anticipated during planning and estimating.
  • Obtain information and decisions about unanticipated developments to prevent delays.
  • Monitor job progress and eliminate bottlenecks.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and supervisor experience are strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Oracle CMMS is a strong plus.

Minerals Technologies Inc. reported second-quarter sales of $548 million, up 4% year-over-year, with first-half sales reaching $1.1 billion, up 7%. The specialty minerals company posted a reported loss of $5.90 per share, though earnings excluding special items were $1.60 per share, up 3% from the prior year. The company recorded a $290 million charge to fund a trust resolving talc-related claims and its subsidiary's bankruptcy proceedings. CEO Douglas Dietrich said the firm is on track for mid-single digit full-year growth despite absorbing significant inflationary costs that temporarily impacted margins. The Engineered Solutions segment achieved record operating margins of 17.8%, whilst Consumer & Specialties operating income declined 21% due to unfavourable volume mix and higher costs. Minerals Technologies will host an Investor Day on 22 September 2026.

The new officers, who will serve two-year terms, are: * Chair: Mitchell Koppelman * Chair-elect: Diane Ramirez * Treasurer: Mike Lentz * Secretary: Nicole Creech * Immediate Past Chair: Traci Stewart Mitch Koppelman, PhD, is a retired vice president of strategic planning for Minerals Technologies and principal consultant for Mineral Solutions and Strategy, where he provides consulting and advisory services to multinational clients. He and his wife Debbie, who has pulmonary arterial hypertension, lost two daughters to pulmonary arterial hypertension. Koppelman is involved in local government and planning in Sanibel, Florida, and Seaside Park, New Jersey. Diane Ramirez, of Lexington, North Carolina, has served on the PHA board for 14 years. In September 2023, she underwent heart and lung transplant after living with PH for 36 years. Her primary motivation to help PHA with its mission comes from losing a brother and two sisters to PAH. Nicole Creech, of Lexington, Kentucky, joined PHA in 2016 and became a volunteer to help find a cure. She also wanted to be empowered by hope and share that hope with others. She coordinates care as patients transition from inpatient and outpatient settings. Stewart has over 20 years of clinical expertise in managing pulmonary hypertension and heart failure patients. Her focus is providing patient, nurse and community education. New board members Jessie Dunne, PharmD, BCPS, BCCP, FACC, is a clinical pharmacist for advanced heart failure and transplant at Oregon Health and Science University. Dan Grinnan, MD, is medical director of the PHA-accredited PH Care Center at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Marcie McGregor joined PHA in 2012 soon after she was diagnosed with PAH. She founded and leads a PHA support group in Augusta, Georgia. George Peoples, MD, FACS, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, became a PHA volunteer five years ago after his daughter was diagnosed with PH. A retired Army colonel, he is the executive medical director of Avance Clinical's Oncology Center of Excellence. Minerals Technologies Inc. has published its 18th Sustainability Report, announcing it achieved all 12 environmental targets set in 2018 and established new 10-year goals through 2035. The New York-based specialty minerals company reduced Scope 1 emissions by 34% and Scope 2 emissions by 42% in absolute terms, exceeding its original targets. MTI also cut landfill waste by 44%, more than doubling its 20% reduction target, and decreased water withdrawal by 31%. In 2025, 67% of the company's new products had a sustainable profile. MTI achieved a record-low injury rate of 0.54, with 92% of sites operating injury-free. The company reported global sales of $2.1 billion in 2025 and employs 4,000 people across 34 countries.

Minerals Technologies proposes $450M trust for talc claims in BMI OldCo bankruptcy plan

Minerals Technologies Inc. has filed a plan of reorganisation in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of its subsidiary BMI OldCo Inc. and affiliated debtors. The filing meets a court-imposed deadline whilst broader disputes remain pending before the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The plan proposes a $450 million trust fund to address current and future talc-related claims, with a channeling injunction protecting non-debtor affiliates. MTI maintains that BMI OldCo's talc products are safe and the lawsuits are meritless. The company will record a $290 million charge in Q2 2026 to increase reserves for estimated costs. MTI continues funding the debtors' administrative expenses whilst awaiting the district court's determination on whether BMI OldCo's talc contained asbestos.
