Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent in Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning, or similar, with a preference for individuals to be professionally licensed in New York State as an Architect, Landscape Architect, or Engineer; Master’s Degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of professional design and/or construction management experience.
  • Significant project management experience on complex public projects.
  • Experience working in New York City government or at other levels of government.
  • Managerial experience with increasing responsibility in design, construction, government, healthcare, and/or real estate development. Demonstrated experience managing a group of design and construction professionals, including effective task delegation and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate macro and micro levels of information as required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to collaborate with and present to executive level managers.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and manage crises and emergencies by effectively mobilizing and directing appropriate resources. Ability to work effectively in an atmosphere of rapidly changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with the NYC construction industry, its practices, methods and unique challenges.
Responsibilities
  • Work in close coordination with Asset Management to onboard existing and new projects.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of projects including all in-house project managers, external program managers, designers, and construction managers.
  • Anticipate regulatory processes and critical path items to ensure timely progress.
  • Effectively manage project budgets.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement to project delivery systems, and improvement to integral project processes.
  • Act as a senior liaison with city agencies to provide updates and direct progress on the projects.
  • Interface directly with Commissioners, senior staff level officials at related City, State, and Federal agencies.
  • Provide guidance to President’s Office regarding major projects.
  • Determine hiring needs, recruiting, and selecting employees.
  • Assign responsibilities based on employees' skills and organizational needs, ensuring work is appropriately delegated.
  • Monitor performance, and provide coaching and feedback to staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure all employees are oriented to their position and provided with appropriate training development and continuing education.
  • Foster a positive work environment, and take necessary action to maintain a productive and motivated team.
  • Correctly interpret and apply NYCEDC policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and inclusively at all levels of the organization.
  • Align staff and departmental goals with NYCEDC’s overall strategic mission.
  • Ensure group’s work performance supports and enhances organizational objectives.
  • Represent NYCEDC at professional and public forums.
  • Other duties as assigned.
