Requirements
- Bachelor (Hons) degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Maths, Physics or equivalent or significant relevant industry experience
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering, or equivalent, body
- Experience interfacing with the UK ONR and EA
- Experience in writing and presenting environmental related technical documentation
- Experience in nuclear power development projects
Responsibilities
- Own, develop and maintain the environmental case delivery programme as part of the overall delivery programme
- Line manage and develop a team of direct reports capable of undertaking and developing environmental submissions as required for radiological and non-radiological areas
- Responsible for overseeing the completion of appropriate environmental assessments and submissions to support the project, including environmental impact assessments, environmental permit applications, contaminated land assessments, water use and discharge assessments, and process effluent monitoring
- Ensure that the appropriate level of quality and governance is applied to environmental submissions
- Act as an environmental technical authority and be able to represent the project at appropriate internal technical and project reviews and at external meetings with the regulator and other stakeholders
- Develop and own internal management arrangements to support compliance with environmental requirements, best practice, and company objectives
- Provide definitive advice in demonstrating compliance with the Environmental Permitting - Radioactive Substance Regulations and Non-RSR regulations, including the demonstration of “best alternative techniques”
- Keep up to date with developments in the nuclear industry and the work of the appropriate external industry groups in the UK
- Work with the nuclear safety case and security case leads to develop an optimised and holistic case, and provide support to the design justification
- Plan and manage environmental casework to meet technical and budget requirements
