Requirements
  • 8+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Doctorate degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or another STEM domain, or equivalent work experience plus 3+ years of professional work experience in the quantum computing field solving the toughest challenges for society
  • World-class expertise in FTQC algorithms that can scale to millions of qubits, billions of gates with line-of-sight to end-customer value; active portfolio of invited talks, repos, licenses, publications and/or patents
  • Active participant in the FTQC algorithm community including the development of tools (libraries, simulators, compiler), metrics (costing, resource estimation, ROI) and community (economic development, standards)
  • Relentless dedication to optimizing algorithmic performance (accuracy, time-to-solution) through elegant theoretical equations, as well as engineering optimization
  • Mastery of key mathematical techniques used in quantum computing and ability to communicate from community to business to PhD level
Responsibilities
  • Lead-by-doing hands-on development of fault-tolerant quantum algorithms that will make a large scientific and commercial impact across a wide range of industry verticals
  • Drive constructive technical interactions across multi-disciplinary teams to identify, define and solve challenging real-world problems using IonQ trapped-ion quantum computers
  • Be a go-to expert to do SWOT analyses of various FTQC algorithms vs NISQ algorithms vs classical HPC algorithms. Communicate to stakeholders the current state-of-the-art, scaling behaviors, trade offs, cross-over points, etc. Drive adoption of benchmarking metrics and tools
  • Develop portfolio of foundational IP and high-impact-factor peer-reviewed publications; represent IonQ externally with customer/clients and at conferences
Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional work experience developing end-to-end solutions for realistic industry problems such as computer-aided engineering, cybersecurity, chemistry
  • Demonstrated expertise in Python and Qiskit or similar quantum SDK; working knowledge of C++
  • Experience proposing, winning, and executing on consultative (paid) contracts; government contracting or defense contracting experience a plus
  • Experience commercializing end-to-end software utilizing hybrid computing e.g. CPU + GPU + QPU, Edge, Cloud, etc. Knowledge of CI/CD a plus

IonQ announces $1B equity offering.

IonQ Inc. announced a $1 billion equity offering with Heights Capital Management, selling 14,165,708 shares and pre-funded warrants for 3,855,557 shares at $55.49 each, a 25% premium to its July 3, 2025, closing price. The deal includes seven-year warrants for 36,042,530 shares at $99.88 each. IonQ's CEO stated the transaction will result in $1.68 billion of pro-forma cash as of March 31, 2025. J.P. Morgan was the sole underwriter, with legal counsel from Paul, Weiss and Simpson Thacher.
