Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development credential is required.
  • One to three years of related work experience is required.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required, including accurate and understandable interpretation and translation and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with computer systems, web-based applications, and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access is required.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers is required.
  • The ability to demonstrate working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies and apply them in varied situations is required.
  • The ability to interact respectfully with employees, professional staff, and external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services is required.
  • The ability to provide customer service using active listening and problem-solving skills and remain calm in stressful situations is required.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors courteously while maintaining service, respect, and privacy.
  • Serve as a central communication source in patient care by remaining responsive, accessible, and visible.
  • Take appropriate actions to diffuse challenging situations and obtain complete and accurate information from patients and callers.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform patient check-in, registration, scheduling, and demographic-information verification according to policies and procedures.
  • Use the computer system to register patients and maintain accurate demographic and fiscal data.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments while accommodating patient and provider needs.
  • Obtain and enter referrals and collect co-pays.
  • Monitor and support patients and visitors entering and leaving the practice.
  • Facilitate timely patient flow and proactively resolve flow issues involving early or late patients and providers.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, practice staff, and other areas to support optimal flow and service delivery.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming reception area.
  • Maintain reception-area signage and clear displayed information.
  • Monitor audio or visual programming and volume levels to maintain a calm, non-intrusive environment.
  • Contact appropriate departments when repairs or services are needed and follow through.
  • Ensure Spanish translation services are provided for Spanish-speaking patients and employees when needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Medical Administrative Assistant certificate is preferred.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
