Requirements
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of relevant nursing care.
- Current CPR certification.
- Certification through an accredited training course through the State of California and current certification through the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support.
- Two years of nursing assistant experience.
- An appropriate license.
- Effective oral, written, and reading communication skills.
- Understanding of the legal implications of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and chart notes on subjects' health problems using a narrative format.
- Observe signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatments or medications, and subjects' general behavior or physical condition.
- Dispense medications and dietary supplements and take verbal or telephone orders from the physician.
- Collect and record subjects' vital signs and chart collected research data into subjects' permanent medical records.
- Perform routine blood and urine sample processing and administer qualitative tests on subjects' daily urine samples.
- Maintain logbooks for transmission to the principal investigator or other staff instructions between shifts, and record study protocol deviations and errors.
- Supervise subjects' consumption of water, meals, and snacks.
- Supervise recreational and social activities for resident subjects and escort subjects to off-site outings while safely operating government-issued vehicles.
- Conduct outside activities with study subjects, including daily walks, developing new activities, planning activities pertinent to the age and sex of subjects, and monitoring subjects during activities.
- Prevent the introduction of contraband items into the research environment by performing routine room inspections.
- Remove contaminated waste from the medical research unit and wipe down surfaces to prepare equipment for special procedures.
