Requirements
  • Hold a current, unencumbered Ohio license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Lift, transfer, push, or pull residents, patients, equipment, or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day nursing activities and assign work to Nursing Assistants in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, guidelines, and facility standards.
  • Assist in coordinating nursing services to ensure continuity of resident care.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards of practice.
  • Represent the nursing department during Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings and answer questions about care plans and service delivery.
  • Participate in committee, employee, departmental, and scheduled in-service training meetings.
  • Make work assignments and meet regularly with Nursing Assistants to identify and correct problem areas and improve care and services.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed.
  • Consult with residents' physicians when planning resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Notify residents' physicians and families when a resident's condition changes.
  • Authorize and monitor the use of restraints in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients as necessary.
  • Work with the Unit Manager to help reduce hospital readmissions.
  • Ensure nursing procedures are followed by nursing service personnel and reflect the facility's current day-to-day nursing practices.
  • Participate in maintaining and implementing the facility's quality assurance program.
  • Ensure nursing staff follow procedures for administering, storing, and controlling medications and supplies.
  • Ensure resident rooms, treatment areas, work areas, and equipment are clean, sanitary, and safe.
  • Supervise Certified Nursing Assistants.
  • Interview, select, and orient new direct reports.
  • Define, establish, and promote performance expectations for direct reports.
  • Evaluate direct reports' job performance and provide developmental guidance.
  • Monitor compliance with organizational requirements, document issues, and work with Human Resources when further intervention is needed.
  • Develop, plan, schedule, conduct, and monitor in-service training, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for departmental staff.
  • Maintain a sufficient staffing plan when a direct report is absent or a direct-report position is vacant.
  • Respond to departmental staff questions, requests, and work products submitted for review and approval.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or related healthcare facility.
  • Supervisory experience in a long-term care, hospital, or related healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.
