Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology or a related field is required.
  • A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency is required, such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification.
  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillation certifications are required.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of experience in the field is required.
  • Strong working knowledge and teaching skills in the analysis and techniques of strength training are required.
  • Experience or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for collegiate populations is required.
  • The ability to operate strength training equipment, automated external defibrillators, and sports aid equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions is required.
  • Knowledge of current Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines is required.
  • Evidence of the ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public is required.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills is required.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement in-season, off-season, and preseason strength training and conditioning programs for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs using research-driven practices and the country's Long-Term Athletic/Fitness Development Model.
  • Work with sports medicine or athletic training staff on the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate collaboration among sport coaches, sports medicine staff, and strength and conditioning staff.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and progress in conjunction with sport coaches.
  • Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sport team with sport coaches and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Conduct and review a departmental risk management plan annually.
  • Complete an annual budget proposal covering routine maintenance, new equipment purchases, and staffing needs.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct consistent with the school's expectations.
  • Establish and maintain strength and conditioning programs for all sports.
  • Devise training plans according to sound scientific principles.
  • Supervise training sessions and evaluate athletes.
  • Maintain athlete records.
  • Supervise work-study and internship students.
  • Meet regularly with sport coaches to determine athlete focus areas in conjunction with the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Maintain the strength and conditioning facility and establish policies, plans, and procedures for its safe and professional operation.
Desired Qualifications
