Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential, plus one to two years of experience in lawn care, maintenance, construction, or horticulture.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Class C operator's license.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, tools, and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work.
  • Skill in determining irrigation problems and maintaining, repairing, and installing irrigation systems.
  • Skill in maintaining flowering annuals, shrubs, trees, roses, and other plant materials.
  • Ability to read chemical labels and mixing directions for insecticides, herbicides, and other pesticides.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check, physical and Human Performance Evaluation, drug and alcohol testing, and motor vehicle review.
Responsibilities
  • Operate specialized equipment for the maintenance of park sites and golf course grounds, including specialized mowing equipment, chemical sprayers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and various implements used in caring for large turf areas, and maintain and perform minor adjustments to the equipment.
  • Perform maintenance duties at golf courses and park sites, including construction and repair of buildings, shelters, playgrounds, concrete and asphalt, retaining walls, landscape improvements, drainage systems, and related facilities.
  • Perform landscape management tasks such as mowing and trimming turfgrass areas and installing and caring for flowers, trees, ground cover, and other plant materials.
  • Apply prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pest control and healthy plants and turf, and maintain accurate application records.
  • Coordinate the activities of seasonal employees and small groups in the care and maintenance of facilities and during special projects.
  • Install irrigation systems and perform preventive maintenance on irrigation systems and controllers.
  • Monitor the daily progress of landscaped areas by inspecting plants and turf for insects, diseases, weeds, desiccation, and other conditions, and recognize problems that may harm plant or turf health, playing conditions, or facility safety.
  • Prepare and maintain records such as cost analyses for site-improvement projects, project progress reports, work performed, equipment used, and fuel usage.
