Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or General Educational Development credential is required.
  • Two to three years of customer service experience, preferably in a medical field, is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population are required.
  • The ability to engage patients and customers calmly and respectfully in person or by telephone is required.
  • Working knowledge of computer-based applications and strong personal computer and keyboard skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgment in decision-making, including escalating issues as needed, are required.
  • A high degree of concentration and information retention is required.
  • The ability to multitask in a high-patient-volume unit is required.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills are required.

  • Knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and authorizations within the assigned specialty is required.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison for referring community organizations referring patients to Albany Medical Center, focusing on patient relations and customer service.
  • Facilitate patient referral appointments into and within the Albany Medical Center Health System by coordinating with community and Albany Medical Center practices.
  • Maintain awareness of Albany Medical Center facility services and capabilities to support Faculty Practice outreach efforts.
  • Assist with resolving potential referral-processing issues as a liaison for the assigned community practice.
  • Prioritize referrals by urgency and address them accurately and promptly.
  • Work with the community office manager or designee to obtain required clinical documentation.
  • Represent Albany Medical Center Health System professionally when communicating with providers, patients, clinical care teams, front-desk staff, and insurance companies.
  • Manage patient referrals and prior authorizations, including tracking, coordination, and communication.
  • Provide external providers with updates on closing the referral loop.
  • Register referred patients, update insurance information, schedule visits, and perform other duties needed to coordinate referral appointment scheduling.
  • Use the electronic medical record to maintain and update patient records, insurance information, and appointment schedules.
  • Maintain accurate logs of patient interactions, outreach activities, and appointment data.
  • Ensure an optimal patient experience.
  • Discuss financial obligations, explain regulatory forms, and answer patient questions.
  • Verify commercial, private, and government insurance and eligibility and obtain authorizations when necessary.
  • Work in multiple systems during patient-facing interactions and telephone call receipts to complete accurate registration and support clinical workflow.
  • Understand the practice strategic plan and support departmental plans, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Represent Albany Medical Center and support the ideals and principles of the department, practice, and center.
  • Promote patient and employee safety, promptly report issues, and understand patient safety goals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience with the Epic electronic medical record is preferred.
