Job Summary:
This is a full-time, term position (up to one year) in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery starting June 2025. A Research Analyst I is sought for a one-year clinical research post in the Orthopaedic Spine division to assist in investigating, assessing and clarifying clinical research data from the spine registry and assist with implementing a wide array of Orthopaedic Spine research projects. Duties may include data collection, recordkeeping and other research admin tasks as well as assisting with IRB submissions, recruitment of study participants, and conducting subject follow up as needed.
This position is an outstanding training opportunity with the Spine Division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for those interested to learn more about and gain experience in orthopaedic research. This research position offers skill building in clinical spine research by learning to conduct prospective and retrospective research clinical projects involving the spectrum of spine surgery. The position is ideal for a US medical student or newly graduated MD who is interested in enhancing their residency application, improving chances of matching, and gaining exposure to the field of Orthopaedic research. The position allows for working closely with attending surgeons and residents, as well as some patient interactions.
We have access to the Vanderbilt Spine Registry, which is one of the longest-running clinical spine registries in the US. Position will involve training in preparation of charts, graphs, tables, and data analysis. It will require biostatistical knowledge and build upon existing knowledge with training. The position will assist in the preparation of materials for publication and will have the opportunity to contribute as an author.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills, an independent work ethic, and strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be someone who is energetic and passionate about clinical research and patient care and looking for a unique year-long opportunity to gain experience in achieving high-quality research data.
JOB SUMMARY

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collect and organize data from a variety of reference sources
• Prepare charts, graphs, and tables according to accepted research practices and preform preliminary analysis.
• Assist in investigating and gathering data
• Route questionnaires, record information and distribute results using established procedures
• Assist with recruiting, interviewing study participants and providing appropriate documentation for research.
• Update manual and/ or automated database file and maintain records
• Edit and/or type manuscripts according to accepted practices and assist in the preparation of materials for publication
• May supervise, plan and assign work for student assistants
• May assist in lab maintenance.
