Requirements
  • Applicants should hold a PhD, or be close to completion, in Neuroscience or a related discipline.
  • Applicants should have experience in one or more of optogenetics, functional imaging, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, behavioural analysis, or computational modelling.
  • Applicants should have a background in a biological or biomedical field such as neuroscience, genetics, evolution, ecology, ethology, computational or quantitative biology, or invertebrate biology.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Principal Investigator in delivering research activity on the BBSRC-funded SoBe project, which uses Drosophila melanogaster to investigate the neurobiological basis of the safety-in-numbers effect.
  • Lead a strand of the project's research programme using behavioural, neurogenetic, and in vivo imaging approaches.
  • Contribute ideas to the wider project.
  • Co-supervise students within the team where applicable.
  • Contribute to the laboratory's development.
  • Conduct behavioural experiments and generate and image genetically manipulated flies.
  • Perform microdissection and surgical preparation for functional imaging.
