The Assistant Controller is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the month end close process, financial reporting, account reconciliations, audit preparation, and directing the work of the Finance staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, employee expense reports, cash control and payroll processing
Assist and oversee the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, collections, and invoicing
Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the department
Manage and review revenue recognition for various streams, including SaaS subscriptions, licensing, time-and-material projects, and support contracts
Coordinate monthly close activities to ensure a timely and accurate close in accordance with GAAP and company deadlines. Ensure reconciliation schedules are complete and accurate. Make adjusting entries as needed.
Maintain general ledger integrity and correctness
Prepares and analyzes reports from the accounting system and proprietary billing system, including Income Statement and Balance Sheet
Balances proprietary bill system to accounting system to ensure all transactions are correctly reflected on financials
Participate in the annual audit
Reviews Sales Commission calculation and report creation. Approves and ensures submittal for payroll processing as well as recording in the general ledger appropriately.
Overview of accurate and timely filing of GST/HST, and other US sales tax for all subsidiaries.
Review and manage uncollectable client accounts as well as all necessary information and tracking status should client be pursued with collection action or litigation.
Plan, schedule, and direct the work of the Finance staff within line of business including establishing individual and team goals, meeting with team as group and one on one routinely and administering reviews in line with company policies.

Experience and Competencies

BS/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field
Preferred CPA Designation (or near completion) or a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as Assistant Controller or similar role
Knowledge of GAAP and regulations
Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
Advanced knowledge of Excel and accounting software
Well-organized with ability to manage multiple priorities
Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data
Ability to consistently communicate effectively and professionally with customers and team members
Continually contribute to a cohesive team environment
Possesses and demonstrates Fleetworthy Core Competencies
Professional certifications is desirable
