Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a hybrid backend/data role.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to write, test, debug, and ship production code, and use structured logging and dependency management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with healthcare claims data.
  • Deep expertise in production data pipelines, Python, SQL window functions, common table expressions, and query and cost optimization for large tables.
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, Functions, Logging/Monitoring, Secret Manager, and IAM in the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem.
  • Production PostgreSQL experience covering schema design, indexing, and diagnosing slow queries.
  • Experience with modern orchestrators such as Mage, Airflow, Dagster, or dbt, and business intelligence layers such as Looker Studio or Power BI, including semantic modeling.
  • Demonstrated care handling sensitive data in regulated environments and sound judgment regarding when and when not to use AI-assisted coding tools.
Responsibilities
  • Build and orchestrate ingestion pipelines via Mage for SFTP, APIs, and electronic health record extracts.
  • Write production-grade Python for transformations, reporting, and internal tooling.
  • Design optimized analytical models in BigQuery and maintain complex SQL assets in BigQuery and PostgreSQL while balancing scale, performance, and cost.
  • Own and manage Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, including Compute Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Functions, Secret Manager, VPC, and IAM, entirely via Terraform.
  • Implement data quality checks, freshness and volume monitoring, failure alerts, and incident response paths.
  • Develop and maintain internal reporting surfaces in Looker Studio, Grafana, and Metabase.
  • Design pipelines that handle protected health information with minimum-necessary access, encryption, least-privilege IAM, and audit logging to support SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, and HITRUST compliance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with clinical operations, product, finance, and other teams to translate business questions into reliable data products.
  • Contribute to the architecture for future artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives, including data preparation and feature engineering.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proven success working in fast-paced, lean startup environments with high autonomy and end-to-end ownership of technical outcomes.
  • Ability to evaluate and responsibly integrate emerging data technologies.
  • Familiarity with X12 EDI, payer file formats, HL7/FHIR, electronic health record integrations, Healthie, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Foundational data science or basic data analytics skills.
