Express is a U.S. fashion retailer that offers versatile clothing for young professionals, including women's and men's lines. It originated in 1980 as Limited Express, a Limited Brands shop in Chicago, and grew to hundreds of mall-based stores before becoming an independent public company after its 2010 IPO. Express sells everyday wear—from casual to business-casual outfits—through its physical stores and a growing online channel. Unlike some peers that focus on a single niche, Express expanded into both genders and a broad range of styles, and it has emphasized updating its offerings and online presence to compete in an increasingly digital retail environment. The company aims to help customers build practical, stylish wardrobes suitable for work and social life, with an emphasis on accessible fashion for young professionals across the United States.

Express Tries to Impress with Launch of 'Expressionists' Creators' Community

Express tries to impress with launch of 'Expressionists' creators' community. * February 18, 2026 at 12:01 PM EST * By Adam Blair Express has introduced The Expressionists, a collective of cultural voices ranging from emerging influencers to established tastemakers and including stylists, athletes, customers and Express employees. The social-first collective, which will officially launch this spring, was created to celebrate self-expression and confident style with initiatives spanning talent partnerships, elevated fashion moments and community-driven storytelling using both customer- and employee-generated content. Super Bowl weekend marked the kickoff of The Expressionists, with Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs and model Nicole Anderson, Kansas City wide receiver Hollywood Brown, as well as Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse joining for the event, all styled in spring Express looks. For New York Fashion Week, Express partnered with Who What Wear, a fashion and lifestyle destination, to create an in-person Styling Suite in NYC, bringing together influencers and media to preview the Express spring collection. Guests included Ciara Miller, Venita Aspen, Carl Radke, Andrea Denver, Sonya Esman and Natalie Lim Suarez. "Our community has always been at the center of everything we do at Express," said Joe Berean, SVP of Marketing and Creative at Express in a statement. "The Expressionists celebrate the people who bring our clothes to life every day. Their creativity makes the brand feel personal, relevant and of the moment." Express was purchased in June 2024 by Phoenix Retail, a joint venture between brand management firm WHP Global and mall operators Simon Property Group, Brookfield Properties and Centennial Real Estate, following Express' April 2024 bankruptcy filing.
