Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One to two years of experience working in human services with homeless individuals, people living in poverty, or individuals experiencing substance use disorder or mental health conditions is required.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to diffuse crisis situations within team settings and independently is required.
  • Ability to document program events and carry out scheduled or spontaneous tasks is required.
  • Ability to apply all training and skill-building information is required.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise guests in the program, including coaching guests on program policies and rules and potential consequences for violations.
  • Address immediate basic needs and orient guests to the warming center program.
  • Provide supplies such as snacks or meals, linens, containers for belongings, and hygiene supplies.
  • Provide conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and support as needed.
  • Supervise guest use of laundry and showers as needed.
  • Assist community providers and social services with guests' individual service needs and promote activities that increase competence with activities of daily living and independent living skills.
  • Plan, conduct, and monitor guest group meetings and other activities.
  • Maintain statistical accountability and provide clear, concise daily log entries and an up-to-date daily log and census.
  • Complete shift-specific tasks such as chore assignments, cleaning, laundry, and intake sheets.
  • Maintain shift-to-shift communication in the staff journal.
  • Answer the telephone, respond to inquiries, and provide resources and referrals.
  • Conduct facility safety checks at least once per night, including sleeping and resting areas, communicate maintenance or repair needs, and monitor the fire, security, and alarm systems.
  • Commit to the work schedule at least two weeks in advance and perform on-call duties when required by program operations.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and required training sessions.
  • Conduct basic intake information for each new guest.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and integrate that understanding into daily responsibilities.
