Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Perform specialized and complex experiments and studies.
  • Participate in the publication of significant research results.
  • Advance expertise through education, training, and research.
  • Write extramural grants and proposals to gain support when appropriate.
  • Collect, prepare, analyze, dissect, and evaluate specimens and tissue cultures.
  • Weigh and anesthetize laboratory animals for experiments.
  • Operate sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
  • Perform calculations to complete research test results.
  • Perform photography and darkroom processing.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
  • Perform specialized laboratory techniques on animal samples, including ELISA, immunofluorescence, hematology, electrophoresis, radioimmunoassay, and chemistry; perform calculations, review laboratory results, and prepare laboratory solutions.
  • Work with laboratory direction on specialized clinical research projects, including literature searches, design, implementation, data collection and interpretation, analysis, writing, test development, and maintaining databases.
  • Work with the laboratory director to design, calculate, and maintain databases of reference intervals.
  • Address client concerns by email and phone, process supply requests, assist with marketing campaigns, send out laboratory requests, and scan reports and laboratory request documents.
  • Accession specimens in the laboratory computer system, separate received samples into designated testing areas, and communicate with clients about specimen conditions and test priorities.
  • Assist with maintenance and scheduled servicing of highly complex instruments and communicate laboratory concerns and instrument troubleshooting issues to the laboratory manager or Senior Research Associate 1.
