Spring built a mobile-first e-commerce marketplace that connects shoppers with a curated mix of fashion and lifestyle brands. It runs as a platform where consumers browse multiple brands in one app and complete a single checkout for items from different labels, while Spring itself does not hold inventory. Revenue comes from commissions on each sale across the brands on the platform. The product works by listing partner brands in a digital storefront, allowing users to add items to a shared cart from multiple brands, and then processing payments and orders through the app. The site differentiates itself by offering a seamless, multi-brand shopping experience with a single-cart checkout and a brand-discovery channel, rather than competing as a retailer with its own stock. Its goal was to simplify mobile shopping and expand access to a curated set of fashion and lifestyle brands, turning discovery and purchase into a straightforward, centralized experience.

What believers are saying

  • Spring’s checkout design remains relevant inside FedEx’s e-commerce capabilities.
  • FedEx still highlights ShopRunner’s brand-merchant connections in its acquisition history page.
  • Spring’s legacy technology gained distribution through ShopRunner and FedEx instead of disappearing immediately.

What critics are saying

  • ShopRunner shut down January 31, 2026, ending Spring’s surviving platform.
  • FedEx folded ShopRunner into Dataworks in 2020, erasing Spring as an employer.
  • No independent Spring business exists; job seekers face zero operating team and no roadmap.

What makes SPRING unique

  • Spring pioneered mobile-first, single-cart checkout across multiple fashion brands in 2014.
  • Ara Katz and Alan Tisch paired consumer-brand taste with startup distribution experience.
  • ShopRunner bought Spring in 2018, validating its cross-brand commerce technology.

UAE's Cobi raises $1M to automate customer intelligence with AI decision stack

UAE-based Cobi, an AI platform for customer intelligence, has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding led by Lunara Partners. Plug and Play, Annex Investments, and Spring also participated. The company helps businesses interpret customer behaviour, transactions, and engagement signals in real time, recommending optimal actions and delivering decisions through existing workflows. Cobi is working with enterprises including Mastercard, Emirates Flight Catering, and Presight AI. The funds will support enterprise deployments across the Middle East and internationally, whilst enhancing Cobi's decisioning capabilities and workflow automation. The platform connects fragmented customer data sources to provide unified insights for product marketing, growth, and customer experience teams. Cobi recently secured a five-year agreement with eNovate to integrate its intelligence infrastructure across eNovate's digital payment ecosystem.
